What do you mean, the Gigabyte DS3 has RAID problems?

Oh, I didn't mean that it would have Raid problems. I was meaning performance-wise.

Performance wise, the boards great for the price. There's only a few boards better than the DS3, but there more. I think it would suit your planned setup quite well.

Oh OK, so you are saying the ICH8R is faster than the ICH8 in RAID0, do you have a benchmarks to prove this statement?

R stands for RAID. *cough*

And IIRC, you have to use the E-SATA and "normal" SATA port on the DS3 for RAID. Not true RAID.

I have no idea what you just said, so I wouldn't know.

Unfortunately the DS3 does not support RAID because it only has the ICH8 chipset. I think, it may support RAID but with the 3rd party chipset but that's where the PATA drives are connected so IMO, that's a big NO.

And yes, the P5B Deluxe is great and it has 6 SATA ports, so you'll be able to run upto 4x HDDs in RAID 0.

As for overclocking, it's easy with the P5B Deluxe. There are a few links where you could get a general idea on how is done when using a P5B Deluxe specifically. I got one of my own which is what I use 24/7.

BTW, ICH8 is the south-bridge on an Intel based motherboard and usually those with saying that the mobo comes with an ICH8-R, it's an indication that the motherboard supports RAID through the South-Bridge which is way better than a 3rd party controller such as Silicon Image and ITE.

The P5B Deluxe comes with a JMicron controller and that's where you hook all the optical drives. The P965 eliminated support for PATA hardware. It's about time IMO.

The difference between the ICH8R and ICH8 is basically raid. The non-R uses a 3rd party controler, Jmicron in this case. As nasgul said, it's a PITA and a waste of time. However, if you buy the ICH8R chippy, it's integrated. It supports RAID via Intel Matrix RAID controler. It's faster becasue it's linked directly through the southbridge, not indirectly. The P5B-Deluxe is a sweet board
