Reducing noise on USB microphone

Thread Starter
I've recently purchased a new headset and it's a USB headset compared to my old one which was not. Now this headset has much better audio but since it's USB Realtek can't do anything with the microphone. Now people I talk with on Skype complain about background noise or the mic deciding to pick up on my breathing when I don't talk for a while. Realtek used to have a noise cancellation feature that would deal with that stuff.

Basically I've found Solicall pro and Noisefree VOIP as alternatives to Realtek, however they will both cost decent money after their 14 day trial period ends. Does anyone know of a program that can actively reduce my USB mics ability to pick up background noise aside from the aforementioned programs?

Well, my first tip would be to stop using Skype. It's garbage.

Use Teamspeak.

Software on the PC or hardware in the mic is boosting sensitivity when the signal level (input) drops for a specified amount of time.

That is exactly what is happening, as for how to fix it I dont know except to start hunting around for settings.

To reduce "P" and "B" pops in the mic you could try wrapping gauze or foam around it.

I had this problem with an old bluetooth headset. Everytime I would stop talking it would start picking up EVERYTHING in the house.

Perhaps you can use different audio drivers, even the plain old windows drivers. Then try to find better software to manually control your mic inputs.
