well not much is coded to really take advantage of the thing. the price of it's too high to warrant most people needing one, which makes developers just kinda ignore it, but i've never been interested in it so i'm not too well versed in its' operation.

i personally agree that the physics card is a gimmic without much of a future.

Not quite, physics is definitely one aspect of game processing that can be easily threaded. AMD/ATI and nVidia have announced discrete physics processing via video cards. Intel wants physics to run on its own core using a quad-core processor. The three major companies of gaming hardware have basically validated dedicated physics will be in the future. The question is how will it be implemented and that turns to the developers.
