Future Upgrades to my Machine

Right, so specs in my signature. I have $910 to spend on this machine, and I already have an idea for some upgrades to be doing to this machine as follows:

Sell my 580 + Motherboard + 2600k + H80 for a total of $600 or so, leaves me with about $1450, I'll assume $1300 or less to upgrade the rest. I really want to move from ATX to MATX and make a built in the beautiful windowed 350D.

Scrap the crappy dusty case, get a 350D = $100

Pickup a Z87 equivalent of the Maximus Gene MATX motherboard = $220

Pickup a H100i = $120

Pickup a 4570k = $240

Pickup a 770 (let's hope the rumors are true and they are truly released this May) = $420

Total Upgrade Cost: $1100. (Overestimated some of the costs to cover some taxes, did this all right now without bothering to use Newegg to check final prices, with proper calculation $1200)

I might even consider to just sell my entire PC for $800-$900 and build a brand new PC from scratch, in which case it would look something like so:

http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/WSrN

(Obviously replace w/ 4570k and 770)

So, does anyone have any advice for me? Should I just stay with the 2600k and just upgrade my GPU and case instead? I'm really tempted to go for Haswell because of the insane overclocking being reported with them, and how my 2600k is really power hungry (1.38V for 4.5Ghz) and how it's not really being used to its fullest extent.

I just read about how someone was able to crank a Haswell chip to 5GHz using little voltage. If that's true, I am definitely going to be waiting for Haswell. I will wait and see if that's true on June 2nd, and I will probably make my decision then whether or not it's going to be worth it or not.

I might just keep my two hard drives and scrap my PC for $800 as I said above and make a new build from scratch. Let's wait and see how the 770/780 and Haswell are though. These reports could be false, but if they are true I am going to have a tough time keeping away from Haswell. wink.gif

Yes dude, That's the better choice because all for the time being are only rumors thumb.gif

The GTX 770 AFAIK is just a rebranded GTX 680 with higher clocks, so don't expect too much.

Judging by your current setup, aside from your GPU. I really don't see what the issue is. My HAF 922 is very organized and has great cable management. I installed some fan filters on it and it's squeaky clean at all times. If you upgrade to a H100i per say, might be able to stretch those clocks a littler further. In all reality a 2600k @ 4.8GHz will carry you through probably until Skylake.

The biggest upgrade you would benefit is upgrading that 580 to a 770. Which although is just the revision of the 680, it still would be a substantial upgrade for you especially after overclocking.

Also that Vengeance can do 1866MHz all day, might want to look into overclocking it.

But basically your rig is fine. Just take some time to work on it.

As the others said, i'd just upgrade the GPU and save the rest of the money. Upgrading anything else isn't going to net enough performance benefit to justify the cost.
