But hey if you want to upgrade the PSU I see deals on the TX650 often...or even go for the Rosewill Capstone 650...But I don't think you would need more than that unless you decided to go with bigger cards later. Should be interesting to see if the next die change drops power consumption significantly.

I might, I still have another week to exchange it over at TigerDirect. I have to go back there today to get a new angular SATA cable since the one I have is bent very badly since I moved the HDD's around and I don't want to take any chances damaging the SATA connector. This 600W is modular and I love having less cables so I might stick with modular.

The 660 I had was bumped up to a 1245 clock and there was still plenty of head room, thats just where i stopped. Just unlock the voltage and mod the bios. As for the 2 gb vs 3 gb of memory, someone on here mentioned they actually saw a decrease in performace between the 2 gb version and 3 gb version. This makes sense as the bandwidth is handicapped vs the 670. It not only doesnt benefit from the extra memory due to the limitation but actually performed worse in benchmarking tests indicating that it handles it poorly as well.

A good read on the subject
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/geforce-gtx-660-ti-memory-bandwidth-anti-aliasing,3283.html

with the 3 gb vs 2gb info here on this and the next 3 pages
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/geforce-gtx-660-ti-memory-bandwidth-anti-aliasing,3283-10.html

The 2gb performs better, in these tests anyway, than the the 3 gb and you should aim at overclocking to improve the performance rather than more memory.

i did a lot of research before I went with the 660ti, but even with its limitations, its the right card for me right now.

Thanks, I'll read these when I get a chance this afternoon. I was reading some things about the 3gb the other day about the memory bandwidth being one of the biggest issues for the 3gb. These cards should be 256 bit and above when considering their competition is at 384 bit in a very similar price bracket.

I just feel like I am so all over the place with trying to get a GPU it is not even funny. LOL!

A quality 600 watt psu will be more than fine for what you want. You can always go a bit bigger if your paranoid but I dont think you need to. My system is at less than 500 watts while running 8 fans, H100, 8 fans, 1 ssd and a hdd. The GTX 660TI is a nice card and should play pretty much any game at 1080p no problems with minor tweaks. If not add a second one down the road since they will be pretty cheap soon.

Edit:

BTW, overclocking the memory helps a lot and the max VRAM usage I seen gaming at 1440p is 2.3gb while playing BF3 64 man maps.

Thats just it, it is..or I should say was. The 660 ti is a 670 thats been hamstringed. They cut it from 256 to 192 and disable a couple other things but it is 670 silicon. It was their answer for that gap between 670 and 660 and to be fair, it performs perfectly for their goal. The price I think has been peoples biggest gripe with this gimmick.

This. Overclocking the core and the memory will get you a substantial boost on the Ti. I have not had time to play with my ti yet but i have had plenty of experience on the 660 and these overclock well. Some will say they have gotten within <10% of stock 670 performace. But who are they? biggrin.gif

My point is, it should be a lot of fun playing with this and dialing it in.

I kept going back and forth between the 7950, 660 Ti, and 670 and just decided to go with Nvidia since I've gone with their GPU's over the years.

My card came in yesterday and got to try it for a few minutes since I spent several hours moving all my components to my new case the HAF XB. As much as I loved the HTPC case, it was too constrained and I couldn't add any water cooling in there for my CPU. Looking at the size of the 660 Ti FTW Sig I think I would of had some issues with the bracket in the original case.

I ran a few of my games on Ultra settings including Bioshock Infinite and there is no longer the issues that I was experiencing with the 560. Hoping to take this card for a spin this weekend and give it some more play time.
