New Build Plans - (work in progress)

Thread Starter
Hey everyone,

Having skipped a couple generations of hardware since my last build out (still presently on an old i7 950), I'm thinkin a new build is long overdue, so here we go.

The plan:

Caselabs STH10
Asus Rampage IV Extreme
i7-3970x - or - i7-4960x if Ivy-E is released when the purchasing phase
G.SKILL Ripjaws Z Series 64GB (2400)
Boot HD - Samsung 840 Pro Series (128g), and for games, probably another 840 pro series (512g)
3x GTX Titan HC, if rumors about the 780 are true, and i'll just hope the price comes down a tad

loop:

Black Ice SR-1 (480), > XSPC Raystorm waterblock > XSPC Dominator Memory block (x2) > XSPC Mosfet > Fullboard > Black Ice SR-1 (480) > GTX Titan (3) > FrozenQ helix res (thinking 400mm) > Swiftech MCP655 (2) w/ bitspower dual D5 Mod top

Fans - 16x Scythe Gentle Typhoon, daisy chained and matched with an NZXT Sentry Mix 2. Thinking 4 fans per channel on the first 4, and leaving the last to channels open for any misc case fans

Additional goal:

Fully customizable RGB place specific lighting -
I want the blocks, tubing, and res to stand out more specifically, so the plan is to see what options I can bring out with individual LEDs and the Aquaero 5. I'm going to stay away from dye's and UV reactive liquid solutions, so the hope is to get a close enough / better effect with the power of LEDs & distilled water. I'll have to do some more research for this part - my DIY knowledge on LED is limited at best biggrinsmiley.gif

That's all for now, any feed back / suggestions are welcome!

Thanks! thumbsupsmiley.png

For awhile I was hoping Nvidia had something up their sleeve for the 780, but it sounds like it'll just be a lesser version of the Titan. Now if they'd just lift their restriction on that limiting pcb.... wishful thinking lol

At the moment nothing too spectacular, a samsung 305t 30" @ 2560 x 1600, with a couple 24" syncmasters (2443BWT) on the side.

I was kind of having a debate between 3x 46" tv's, or 3x 27" 120hz asus monitors for the upcoming build. On one hand, the TV's would look awesome, and I like the idea of never squinting to see something, but on the other hand, the TVs input limit would be counter productive and deny nice features like 3D gaming, or always-on lightboost true motion.

I'll probably go with the 3x 27", unless I can put together the desk I've been mapping out (which would require assistance from someone with much more engineering prowess than myself biggrin.gif )

You'd definitely be squinting at text on a 46 inch tv. Not as bad as they were on the review video of the 50 inch 4k Seiki Tv but still, he was sitting right in front of it and had trouble.

Yikes, good to know - I had a similar problem the last time I hooked the pc up to a 52 inch, but I just assumed it was because the tv was outdated lol, the newer top of the line LED's still have this problem?

As far as I know yes. It's just the fact that at that high of a resolution the text is going to be small combined with how far away you have to sit from a 42-50+ inch tv.

But there are some things you can do to adjust I'm sure. Change DPI/text size and things like that. Might not be a problem if all you plan to do is game on it - you wont be reading to much text on the desktop I'd imagine. And with steams big screen mode it might actually be quite nice. I'll let somebody else who knows more chime in though

I'll certainly keep that in mind smile.gif

As of right now I'm starting to debate whether or not the 480mm sr1 rads will be enough. I expect they'll be nice and quiet, but I don't want to trade too much performance for a little fan noise.. decisions decisions confusedsmiley.png
