Will an i5 3470 handle two EVGA GTX 650 ti boost SC in SLI? - Page 2

I have a 3470, it works just fine @ 3.8ghz - 4ghz OC'd. I firmly believe that anything above 4ghz has diminishing returns.

Don't listen to all these jokers telling you otherwise. You will not see any kind of bottleneck in a ANY game. Before my SFF IB setup, I had a SB i7 2600k, IHO not worth the premium I spent for very much the same performance. If cost difference is minimal, then obviously go with a 3570k, but a 3470 will work just fine.

I myself, will be replacing my HD7870 with a HD8970 or GTX 770 when they come available.

3. Can a asus maximus v gene overclock the i5 3470 to 4.0ghz? or over the given 3.6 ghz?

1. Yes

2. Slightly better than a GTX 680

3. It will depend on how good is your CPU.

On number 3, he will limited more or less by the locked multiplier. However, you can up the multiplier 4+, which is essentially what I did. biggrin.gif

On a side note, here is some Crysis 3 CPU scaling benchmarks. Take note, a 3470 is very comparable to a 3570 in terms of performance. Also take notice that a 3470 is only 7 fps away from a 3960X while at stock speeds. biggrin.gif

if you read my post I'm also in agreement that it will do fine and where it will clock out to.

if I can get my i5-2400 @ 3.8GHz and my i3-2130 @ 3.6GHz I'm sure a 3470 will rock hard.
but wanting to SLi and then knowing how the majority around here are,,,,, save yourself the headache
and get the K series chip now especially if spending for a Gene V or any other SLi board.

if not intentions of upgrading again and definitely going to stay with 650 Ti w/ Boost in SLi FOREVER...!
then stay with the 3470 on a Z77 mobo.
better than nothing I guess.

maybe I'm thinking in terms of tomorrow and not today.?

I personally would get a 3470 and a decent Z77 mobo now. Then sell when the prices of used 3770k's come down, grab that for the difference in price. biggrin.gif But otherwise a 3570k will do the trick!
