Faster boot with new Intel RST 12.6.0.1033 drivers - Page 5

well I tried it and it increased my boot time by ~7 seconds (went from just under 20 to just over 27, using a stop watch from button press to desktop.)

I'm running windows 8 if it makes any difference

tried several times seeing if it needed some time to "settle" but same time every time.
EDIT:
went back to 12.5.0.1066 and I'm back to just under my 20 second boot

No RAID here btw

Can you update to the 12.6.0.1033 if you are on a ICH10R SATA Controller?

I have a i7 920 on a ASUS P6X58D-E board.

Thanks..

Yep, because the X58 chipset is supported.

These drivers don't seem to be available from Intel. Why is that?

Seriously? I am also wondering why did they pulled out their latest driver? There should be an explanation to this, not just because it's intel.

Thanks TwoCables.

Quick follow up. I installed the 12.6.0.1033 and it gave a successful message. After a reboot in the Device Manager the AHCI controller is still showing the previous driver number of 11.2.0.1006. Also now in my notification area, the Intel RST icon shows blue with "Intel RST service is not running".

Any ideas? I ran the new install with admin rights/privileges.

Thanks,

Come to think of it, I remember people posting earlier in this thread about problems with RAID setups or something. So, maybe that's why. I'm not sure.

Thanks,

Do you mean the driver version under "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers"?

The service in question has a default setting in Services.msc of "Automatic (Delayed Start)", so that may be it. Perhaps they should have had it say "it's not running yet". The name of the service in Services.msc is just "Intel(R) Rapid Storage Technology". I actually have mine disabled because I feel that I don't need it. All I want is the driver, not extra software.

Yes, I was referring to the driver number under IDE/ATA/ATAPI controllers. It is still showing the previous driver number. Shouldn't it show the 12.6.0.1033 driver number now?

Thanks for the info about the notification area icon.

You're right, it should. I wonder if maybe it's not truly compatible with the X58 chipset or something...
