Sapphire 7950 Vapor-X Cooling Question

Thread Starter
Hi, I was wondering if it was normal for the card to be about 46-52 C at idle because I switched from a EVGA GTX 670 and it was like 36 C at idle and it concerns me a bit to see my card this warm at idle, the card is a couple days old so I'm not sure if it would take time to get the idle temps to get stable or what. Thanks

Temps are fine, only thing that matters are the temps under load.

Ah okay, it just seemed weird for it to be that hot, it gets up to 66-68 C under load so it's fine. Thanks for the quick response.

If your Vapor -x is running that hot at idle -yes your safe, but for sure watch your load temps.
But as an owner of a Vapor-x that is pretty hot at idle, But it also depends what your fan settings/core/mem voltage are at, plus how well cooled your case is.
Mine idels at 32c and max temp is 62c under full load with my settings. But again my whole system runs cool because of my set up. Also my custom fan speeds in Afterburner start at 30c with fan at %30, and is nice and quiet, cant hear it over my other fans.

Full load i get to about 70c but i have high ambient in my office and i idle around 48c as well.

i'll check mine when i get home, but i'm fairly sure that my idle temps weren't anywhere near that high... for some reason i recollect 30s somewhere. haha not really any good info, but there will be more to come smile.gif

Even if I have my setting at default (1600 for mem volt, 1250 memory clock, and 950 core clock using the second bios) it's still in the 48-52 C area idle with the auto fan settings and I have 4 fans in my case, 230mm front intake, 230, top exhaust, 230mm side intake, and 120mm back exhaust. The highest the fans get to is around 51-54% (anything past that and it's loud) and 68 C was the highest I've seen it get to with my game settings.

You are most likely running a multi monitor setup - in this case your card runs at increased clocks/voltages and this is why you are seeing high idle temps. Overclocking the display to 100Hz will also cause the card to run at increased clocks.

Try running a single monitor @ 60Hz and your idle will drop back to 30-35C.

my idle temp is 32 right now. ambient is about 15 degrees. i am running a single monitor setup.

but i guess if load temps are well within spec (and 68 is far from hot as far as GPUs at full load go...) then you should really have no worries.
