3570k OC 4.5ghz @ 1.128V

Thread Starter
I built this PC last summer and just started getting into overclocking it. I followed the asrock overclocking guide exactly (for a "green" overclock) and here's the result.

12hr prime run

12 hour prime run with vcore between 1.120-1.136V.
Temps averaged around 70-75C while running prime

ASRock Z77 Extreme4
Cool Master 212 Evo w/ stock fan
Case Corsair 550D w/ cougar pwm 120mm fans, 2 intake 1 exhaust
Ambient temps varied from 80-70F

Batch #: 3221B810 for those who are curious.

Golden chip? wheee.gif

I wouldn't say golden, but definitely very lucky. Get that baby under water and bring it up to 4.8!

If you need help feel free to ask, but I'm probably not the best person, but I'll try.

Also will there be any noticeable performance difference if I go up to 4.8ghz or higher for just gaming / general use? I feel like 4.5 ghz is plenty for now.

It's a great chip, but the z77 extreme4 and some other boards supply more voltage than they read in software

No reason to hold back, really, as long as temps and voltages are good. 4.5 to 4.9 for example will give something like 12% higher minimum FPS in sc2, where minimums always hurt, if you want a real world application for it. If you dont do anything that will max out CPU cores you probably wont notice a difference though.

4.5 - 4.8 there will be a slight increase in performance but i dont think you will notice it outside of benchmarks.

I'd argue for it, though 81c at 1.128v implies really bad cooling (worse than i would expect from a hyper 212+ with proper ventilation and thermal paste application) or some other problem. My friend got better temps with a hr-02 macho at 1.3v.

It could be a ventilation problem since my current set up puts the front intakes right in the corner of my room, so I can have the exhaust near my window. I might move the case to give it better airflow and re-seat the heat sink and clean up some dust which should definitely help temperatures for the summer heat.

Oh yeah also, I might look into moving one of my cougar fans to the 212 evo and getting a 140mm for exhaust. Any recommendations for a quiet 140mm fan?
