Today, humming along at work I suddenly hear a very
loud high-pitch screaming emanating from the office where 4P McFoldy is stashed. Fearing the worst I run into the room to find a bad sight. My XSPC D5 bay-res/pump combo decided that today was they day it had enough, it couldn't take it no more.... It puked it's whole contents onto my desk, having my pump run dry (loud noise) and my system overheat itself into protection mode (thank you supermicro boards for having this!).My thoughts :
In process of diagnosing what happened. Can't tell if the seal failed or what. At any rate I'm not trusting this res/pump combo thing anymore. It was a clean solution, but not one that I trust anymore. Thankfully no water got onto my board/electronics as they are all raised up on my Spotswood tray.Casualties :Pump
: Ran dry for too long. bearing has bad marring on inspectionRes combo
: Self explanatory.... stupid thing. Upon disassembly found to have many burrs in machined grooves, o-ring channels, and an overall poor fit and finish. Will be giving it a proper farewell via buckshot this afternoon. This month's Foldathon
: Unfortunately due to the worst
timing of this incident i will not be able to contribute to this month's foldathon with this machine. Moving Forward :
Plan on doing a dedicated pump-top and tube res. Unless microcenter has anything decent i'll be forced to order up and wait a few days to get back online. They will be mounted as such any failure will drain away
from my system.
P.S. Sorry for lack of pictures. Taking pictures was not top priority when you find your 4p sitting in a puddle.
