I'll need to look into this. Still learning the ropes when it comes to doing anything inside linux. I haven't touched it in close to 10 years since SuSe 9.0 so things are slowly coming back. Tomorrow I'll likely set up a VM on my Sig Rig just so that I can keep fiddling around and learning the basics. Want this 4P to be set up perfect and rock-solid-reliable since It'll be running at my work and I won't have much time to interact with it directly on a day to day basis.

We will need to make a 4P folding club so we can help eachother out with stuff like this.

I just KNOW I will also have a huge issue with Ubuntu / Linux. I have never used it. Only the old DOS back in the day, Windows and IOS (oh and Android).

Why are your heatsinks pointing to eachother btw?

Looking smexy man. Keep up the good work!

I also heard people say that they got better scores PPD by adding a dedicated gfx card just for the monitor.

Well, either Coremageddon or Building a 2P/4P guide might have what you're looking for! thumb.gif

Played around for half an hour or so trying to familiarize myself with ubuntu (I suck hard... embarrassingly am a complete noob). Realized that the stock integrated graphics want to make me pull my hair out. running what feels like 5fps on the desktop makes for a very jerky and frustrating experience when running in a GUI. A computer of this power should be smooth! Maybe a cheap discrete card is in my future.

Tried to install v7 F@h client via Blademaster's guide and failed miserably. FahControl couldn't find FahClient, errors were being thrown around, pretty sure I goofed up something using sudo when I wasn't supposed to.
Try following this guide: http://www.overclock.net/t/1186703/ubuntu-smp-v7-bootable-folding-flash-drive-with-remote-monitoring

I used it for USB installation as well as installation on an HDD and this guide seems to work great. thumb.gif

Just start with Step 2 and you should figure it out quickly. thumb.gif

And to be honest, other people have said that with Lubuntu the GUI will be smoother, but I'd throw in a cheap graphics card (read: 5450 or GT 610) just because at least for me, I think it would be much easier, but that's coming from a total Linux noob as well.

Hello! For the 4p your gonna want to install the older version of fah, so you can run bigadv on it.
There is an easy guide on [H] by Musky,, is under Distributed computing, DC guides,,, "ubuntu install with fah",, just type in the simple script and watch it work its magic.

Didn't want hot air from one being pulled through the other. Will play around with fan placement, might do push/pull too. Haven't been able to stress the chips yet so the only temp reading I have gotten is from the BIos and it just reads "low" lachen.gif

Derickwm's guide has info on v6 install. I wanted to run v7 personally as it's all i'm used to from folding on my sig rig.

Could have sworn some other bigbeta folders ran 12.04 / v7. thinking.gif

Build looks great thumb.gif This is actually the same fan configuration I am using now as it has proven in my case to actually be the most effective. Can't wait to see your PPD numbers.

I'll have to reverse my fans around and see how that flow pattern works. Nice thing about these 212's is that you can just clip and unclip fans so fast! I remember wanting to play with fan orientation on my WC setup in my main box and dreading all the work that entailed with radiators and what feels like 100s of fan screws.

Well. Microcenter had a sale on a refurb Nvidia 8400gs. $20 bucks. So ol' 4P McFoldy now has a discrete card. Probably will still run Lubuntu in the end, but figured it'd be nice to have a spare cheapo card anyways.

Oh. and i picked up another cheap sandisk SSD. un-plugged all my windows harddrives from my main computer, ergo forcing me to learn linux! biggrin.gif I'll see if I can get smp folding on my 3930k in ubuntu via v6.
