Realized that the stock integrated graphics want to make me pull my hair out. running what feels like 5fps on the desktop makes for a very jerky and frustrating experience when running in a GUI. A computer of this power should be smooth! Maybe a cheap discrete card is in my future.

Once you have installed Ubuntu, switch to Lubuntu. The GUI is as smooth as butter. The onboard GPU (Matrox G200) is capable enough to handle the plain-vanilla interface of Lubuntu.

If you're hardcore, screw GUI!
That said, if you use the alternate version of the .iso file (ends in alternate instead of desktop or server), you have the option of choosing Lubuntu (LXDE destop manager) during the installation.

With integrated as in on-board (as in this case and many previous integrated GPU's) or on-chip (Sandy, Ivy, etc)? I tried using a discrete GPU with my 2500K, I saw no gain in PPD nor OCabiluity. However, i wasn't running a GUI on that one, didn't even have a monitor hooked up to it.

There is an easy guide on [H] by Musky,, is under Distributed computing, DC guides,,, "ubuntu install with fah",, just type in the simple script and watch it work its magic.

v7 works fine and I personally prefer it to v6 nowadays. Partly because I run it on all rigs.

I'm running 12.04/v6 ... and I'd rather fold with this setup vice v7!

v7 all the way man, it works great
Ran 10.10 w/ v7 up until a few weeks ago, then I did a bit of spring cleaning and got 12.04 installed on both.

I like the spirit! thumb.gif

Subbed as this is relevant to my build in my Sig, though mine is for gaming/general PC usage with BOINC as a side thing

So with the ES chips can you just change the multi effectively giving yourself an OC then? because ive seen a few of them on ebay but didnt go near them because they are all in korea so i'd get stung by 20-30% tax frown.gif

I'm dying to get my spotswood bench! I may set it up tonight on my counter and have it run a few SMP units overnight.

Folding for the.foldathon! wheee.gif

ppd seems to wildly fluctuate between 420k to 730k ppd. Running the kraken, v7 bigbeta all at 3.2ghz. Temps are stable <45 degrees.frame times are much slower than I thouhht. 7:54 for an 8105.

Just completed a percent and frame time shot up to 18 mim.... no sign of troubles in the log. All cores pegged at 100%. Wonder if its just a ppd reporting error on FAHControls part.

Do you have TPC setup to use the proper PState? I'm wondering if your turbo is fluctuating. TPC should also show you what frequency you're running at.
