Based on Studio Ghibli's BD release pattern, it's going to be a while before Mononoke and Spirited Away will hit BD.

Sadly, my R2J copy of Mononoke doesn't look great on my HDTV due to all the edge enhancement. I know that it was encoded in 2000, but still...

Then again, nothing beat seeing it on the big screen back in 1999. Thank God I lived in Seattle at the time, or else I would've never gotten that opportunity (as this was before Disney really got into the Hayao Miyazaki business theatrically)...

I saw Mononoke in a theater in Minneapolis back in 99 (I think) as well. I remember it was only showing in some artsy theater, and I had never really encountered anime before that, but a friend recommended it, and it changed my life. I then went on a ravenous hunt for all other things Ghibli, but what can you do...

Sounds exactly like what happened with me. The very first thing I did when I got back to my college dorm room after seeing Mononoke was downloading a fansub of it off of ScourMX...

Ha the days of when anime was played in theaters that were considered artsy theaters...
Saw Ghost in the Shell and GITS : Innocence on a big screen in 99 in flagstaff that was a long time ago then they did an Akira showing and Paprika some time after that...(way later really )
Only three people at each one WAS AWESOME No Annoying Children to cry, no pissed off parents, just some kids with animation and a big bag of skittles to enjoy the shows plus the feel of the theater was old and the film felt right on older film reel

Hahaha, same with me too. However, I used to be into anime when I was a child due to cartoon network. I then decided to take up drawing anime around the age of 12. Saw my first anime film around that age, then... roughly 5 years later my friend introduced me to Ghibli. I've never been the same since. Literally life changing, you start to care more about your family and friends because Ghibli films are so beautifully made, you can just tell a crud tonne of heart was put into it and it somehow transfers to reality!

I don't care how soppy that sounds, Ghibli is the bees knees. Best anime of all time, period. Which is why my head is pregnant with excitement for Realm.

Hilarious, that made my day. Imagine if that game ever existed... In fact... What're you smoking dude? Hahahaha, where on earth or how... Did that title make you think anything of the sort? Brilliant, I want what he's having please.

Furthermore...

You should watch a Ghibli, they're nothing like anything I've ever seen. Heartwarming happy feel films, with enough mature content to keep all ages glued. Definitely missing out. I don't like a lot of some of these anime's, but Ghibli is the best exception from your standpoint.

With the obvious exception of Grave of the Fireflies. It's the equivalent of IBT or Prime95 for your tear ducts...
