AMD new setup

Hello, OCN!

I want to upgrade my PC as it is about 5 years old and i am afraid i won't be able to play some new games like GTA 5 or even the new Metro might give me some troubles.

I need a new CPU, MOBO and 4 Gb Ram and i've got about 200 $ for it.

I did ask a question about CPU only because i thought i would change only it but now i have some extra money to spend so i decided to basically build a new PC.
ATM i choose between Phenom II X4 965 BE + some RAM like DDR3 2048Mb 1333MHz Samsung / Hynix + a MOBO which can hold 125 W Phenom
Or FX 6300 + some cheap DDR3 4 Gb + some MOBO. A cheap one as well i guess.

What can you suggest? I would also be glad if i could OC the CPU so i guess i would need to buy a good air cooler (ATM i have DEEPCOOL Gamma 200)

My current setup is

1) DualCore AMD Athlon 64 X2, 3000 MHz 6000+
2) DDR 2 ram 2 Gb x2
3) Gigabyte GA-MA770-UD3 v1.0 (AM2/AM2+)
4) Corsair CX 600 W
5) GTX 560 TI from Asus meaning already OCed
6) 23" monitor

FX 6300 + some cheap DDR3 4 Gb + some MOBO. A cheap one as well i guess.

Would be a decent option.

Or if you can splash some extra cash on the new 6350 that would be ideal as well

I don't have anything available from this list :/
Yeah it seems i've got even more extra cash lol biggrin.gif

The only thing i have in my city is RAM. And i will totally go for it since i DO love Corsair tongue.gif But what would be better 2 Gb x2 or 4 Gb as one stick? Also if i had a MOBO with only 1333 Mhz would i still go for DIMM DDR3, 4ГБ, Corsair XMS3 Classic (which is 1333 Mhz as well)?

I visited 5 different shops and they all gave me different setups. What do you think is the best one? I could totally mix different parts from different shops.

1) ECS A960M-MV - 41$. CRUCIAL CT25664BA160B DDR3 1600, 2 Gb x2 - 35$ 2 sticks. AMD FX 6300, Socket AM3+, OEM [fd6300wmw6khk] - 122$. 198$ total

IMO, the 2nd and 3rd option looks promising. Relatively good Mobo(might be even good enough for some minor CPU overclock), 1600mhz ram as well...now it depends if you want a 4 core (and renowned) x4, or a 6 core piledriver FX6300..both are very good choices but if you want newer architecture(which also means less power consumption which leads to less heat), go for the FX6300 no doubt

Which one it is (the good MOBO)? Also what's the difference between cheap and expensive motherboards? How do i see it's a good one? Do they affect performance in any way? Except for allowing faster RAM

Just google those boards in option 2 and 3. The Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3 would be the better option here. More up-to-date chipset on the board as compared to the asrock one. Not only that, its an ATX sized mobo while the asrock is an iatx one. In this case, if you need a second PCIEx16 lane for maybe say a LAN card or a sound card, you have that option in the gigabyte board but not on the asrock one. Also in terms of overclocking, I can't say much for both the mobos because they lack a heatsink over the VRMs.

I would personally go for the gigabyte board and pair it with the fx6300 if possible, if not the phenom ii x4 will do the job as well
