AMD new setup - Page 2

My rec if you only have $200 to spend is stick with your current motherboard. Get an Athlon II x4 propus core 3ghz. If that motherboard is a good capable overclocker then you might be able to push that CPU to 3.75Ghz. And up your memory to 4 or 8 gigabytes. Then save for a new graphics card as your current one will get you by for at least another year. Upgrading the motherboard is really not going to get you much in the line of gaming speed. Remember that even the latest 990FX chipsets are still limited to PCIe 2.0. Albeit 2 16x lanes which is more than AM2 but since your limiting yourself to one graphics card this should not be an issue. Also DDR2 memory, even the fastest, will be a tad cheaper than DDR3. Other things to consider are CPU cooler and maybe a SATA3 controller card.

I decided to go with this setup:

1) AMD FX-6300 3.5GHz (Turbo up to 4.1GHz) 14Mb DDR3-1866 Socket-AM3+ OEM
2) MB Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3 AMD 970 DDR3
3) DIMM DDR3, 4ГБ, Corsair, XMS3, CMX4GX3M1A1600C11 - it says it needs 1.65 W not 1.5 and i will have to set it manually in BIOS. Wil this be stable or i better find some 1.5 W RAM?

Thanks for the help guys you really helped me thumb.gif

Oh and CX600 W Corsair PSU will handle it fine right?

Awesome dude! It will do you good! thumb.gif

For the ram, double check again if it says 1.5V or 1.65V. If it is 1.5V, it will be automatically adjusted to 1.5V. But if it really is 1.65V, going into the bios and simply manually inputting the DRAM voltage to 1.65V shouldn't be too much of a problem.

And yeah, 600W for this setup + your 560ti is more than sufficient! biggrin.gif

By the way, are you planning to use stock cooling? Or do you already have some sort of aftermarket cooling??

Yup! At least you have a sufficient aftermarket cooling solution for your CPU instead of the stock. If you do ever plan to overclock your CPU at least this cooler will give you some headroom! Cheers! thumb.gif

I vote fer #2..It's the only real quad-core in there. biggrin.gif

PS: Corsair DDR3 is pretty junky unless you get Dominator plat. er summin

The DS3 is an OK mobo thumb.gif

You may not need a board..or RAM..

You really didn't....GA-MA770-UD3 v1.0 supports up to Phenom II X6
AND is a fairly solid overclocker

Well, i am not going to send shuttles into space with this PC lol. That RAM costs about 330$ for 4GB stick. it's sick. Look at what i have now - in all 5 years of having it i have expirienced laggs in a game like 5 times maybe. The latest one and the only one i remember is Metro Last Light which gave me some laggs and low FPS in the city in the beggining. Oh, BF3 also but i had 9800 GTX+ back then. I haven't tried only AC 3 and Crisis 3 so far afaik. So this new setup will work wonders for my needs (i hope lol). But if i just switch to Phenom II X4 965 would this old hardware (MOBO and DDR2) achieve something even close to the new setup i wrote above? Maybe there is a site or something to see the performance of a build?

BTW on the MOBO. It says 4 x 1.5V DDR3 DIMM sockets supporting up to 32 GB of system memory and that it "supports" DDR3 2000(O.C.)/1866/1600/1333/1066 MHz memory modules. Is there a difference between just working with and supporting? And if it says 1.5V DDR3 does it mean it won't give the needed 1.65 to 1600 MHz ram like the corsair XMS3?

Heh sorry for so many questions tongue.gif

Are you stuck in 2009? DDR2 1066 GB for GB is twice as expensive as DDR3 1600

I'll say FX6350 is a better clocker than 6300 though tongue.gif

No ... it's not ... Stock cooler is much better but noisier for sure and i know Gamma 200 has a pretty rubbish cooling capacity, it's worse than a Ice Edge Mini FS i use in my file server which is probably about 10-20c better than the stock pentium wolfdale heatsink
(The silent one from C2D era, not the sandy bridge one, sandy bridge is alot louder)
