In other words, it's as powerful as a GK104 is going to get (aside from OCs). Yes, the new cooler will definitely be an improvement over a STOCK 680. But you could buy a 680 with a third-party cooler right now.
However, if zo1o were to buy two 780s (when they release), THAT would be a considerable performance improvement over 2 7970GEs or 2 680s. But not 3 7970s, which is and will still be far cheaper than two 780s.
The rumors also say that the 770 will come with much higher stock clocks than the existing 680s and will probably still have more overclock headroom especially with the improved cooling solution and more so if nvidia decides to be flexible with the voltage control options. Plus it comes with newer features like GPU Boost 2.0. It will probably be priced lower than the existing 680s with third party coolers ($450 as opposed to the $500 Lightning version). So yes, the 770 will definitely have quite a few edges over a 680.
What I'm suggesting is to get a 780 if OP's budget allows. The 770 is the next option, but its still better than buying a 680 in my opinion.

Good move deciding to wait. Go through some reviews when they come out and then decide which card to get based on your budget.

Except for the 780, the 700 series IS the 600 series.
They're all rehashes of Kepler. As for the 780, it's just a worse Titan (GK110).

7970gHz for sure. Even for two-way CF/SLI (which is as far as I recommend going on Z77), you won't need more than 750W. You can even run 670 SLI (2-way) off of a 650W PSU. For "safety" and overclocking room, however, I would grab a Silverstone Gold Strider Evolution 750W PSU, personally.

Unless there is a clandestine money tree growing operation in someone's basement or they just have money like that, Im pretty sure everyone feels that way.

Just wait a week and see. Im pretty sure the OCN market place will be have an influx of new used stock if prices of the 700 series are relatively decent. You just need to worry about int'l shipping thumb.gif .

Will most likely start at more like 600.
Not to mention it has ~200-300 cores disabled (depending on where you look), one less GB of GDDR5, and probably some other nerfs.

Still much better price-performance, but well. My point stands; that the 700 series is literally nothing new other than a cheaper, worse Titan and probably slightly increased clocks on all models.

getting some regardless and I believe I'm in the majority in this one.. thumb.gif
I'm actually getting SLi 770's and I'm done. smile.gif
post #59 of 76
GTX680 SC is more or less the same as the HD7970 GE, with "better" drivers.

people constantly compare stock vanilla GTX680's to HD7970GE's... but keep in mind GE's are not stock vanilla HD7970's which fall behind a stock GTX680 in terms of fps in a number of modern games.

The "better" card between a GTX680SC vs HD7970GE? I would probably side with green team. However, being the MUCH MUCH better value for the money(aside from energy consumption)? HD7970GE hands down.
