[Anandtech]NVIDIA Shield Up for Preorder May 20 for $349, Ships in June - Page 16

If it had some other O/S on it then I might be concerned. I'm still looking at OUYA as well and then there's this Nvidia thingy... I'm thinking Nvidia is thinking for the future and not the past in their bet on Shield.

If there's one thing we know the mod community loves android to tinker with like the Xbox Kinect. I just bought one of the WIFI enabled USB mobile storage drives that I have in my backback and am always connected to on my smartphone because the drive has a WIFI SSID I create and connect to. Great for in the car trips etc, and streaming 5 movies/music to 5 people in theory... Not that I would ever advertise my own private mobile server/hotspot at work biggrin.gif

If the Shield could connect and stream from one of these new USB Wifi drives it would be nice. Thus breaking the 100 feet pre-launch moniker talked about here. Then the kid could take it in the car etc... This is all hypothetical of course until we find out facts, which no one has at this point. Later, boss incoming tongue.gif Alt-tab

Like most users here said, I think this has EPIC FAIL written all over it. Why stream from a device if you can only do it @ home? How many "epic" android games are out there? Why not buy a 3DS or PS Vita for a much lower price? rolleyes.gif

So basically its like buying a Wii U controller and paying the price of a Wii U.

So, for the cost of a decent Kepler you can get a PS4 (hopefully), and a Vita is a hell of a lot more less than a Shield. I would expect most people with recent graphics cards that aren't Keplers (GTX 500s, HD7000s, HD6000s of decent level) would take a PS4 over a Kepler considering a Kepler isn't going to be that massive of an upgrade.

Hope the PSV will have an app for a full button remap.. It would be horrible to have the backpad as your only option for L2 and R2.

They've got the sticks in the wrong place. This is pretty much an xbox controller ruined by using the backwards playstation analog stick layout. Not that I would ever consider buying this crap.

It's among the Big 3 now (Nintendo, Sony & Microsoft). Ouya is essentially an Android gaming device mixed with some Indie games to play. I don't think it can compete on console gaming. Valve's Steam Box though how exactly it works remains a mystery looks like it will fail too as it's just an underpowered PC game device. Up until today I considered Microsoft as a threat to Sony but when I saw the Xbox One unveiling things changed. Looks like Microsoft's primary focus on Xbox One is more of a multimedia device rather than gaming.

I'll be buying one. Already own a vita, psp, 3ds. I have 2 kepler based pc's to stream from should i decide to do that. (Ones hooked to the tv so probably not.) Excited to either use miracast or the nyko dock to use this as a home android console that can be picked up and taken with you. Also will work as and XBMC player for any hdtv. Perfect for emulation up to n64. Should be able to play h.264 mkv without conversion unlike my galaxy s3. For 300 this thing is providing a huge amount of functionality for me.
