How quickly will the novelty of playing crysis 3 on an xbox 360 clone gamepad wear off while sitting on the toilet? What about other MP games? Well I can't play WoW. I definitely can't play a MOBA. I definitely don't want to play a FPS game with a 360 pad, and I don't want to do so on a handheld that renders my PC useless. You understand the streaming will only work in the same house, within 100 feet of your PC yeah? Please tell me how this is useful. Please tell me why I would want to game on a cheese 720p handheld, with an xbox 360 pad, when I can just plop myself in front of my computer.

To summarize:

1) The control scheme for PC games doesn't translate for many games to the 360 pad.
2) Most FPS players do not use 360 pads for gameplay
3) You must be in the same house as your kepler equipped PC to even use the streaming feature
4) MOBA's and MMOs are out of the question
5) So...this leaves....what exactly? I could play assassin's creed with the 360 pad. You're severely limiting your game choice, not to mention -
6) Why would you use Shield instead of plopping in front of your PC?

Streaming is completely worthless. IF I could stream from my house to another city 100 miles away, then it would perhaps be useful. As things are, it's worthless. Utterly worthless.

Well tell us how you really feel...lol

I have to agree that I would get no use from this, but to each their own.

I assume this uses a lower end IPS display? IMO it will sht on the VITA's screen

(Happy MURA and low brightness.. awesome on the go gaming! I've owned 5)

I'm pretty sure this is a magnitude more versatile than the VITA with a proper browser and app store access.

Will still probably niche as heck tho.

As I said, worthless to most people. Maybe not to you, but to most.

oh thanks for the clarrification.  (my googling is a little slow right now, on an old crap workstation where even 3 tabs of OCN lags)

hmm so you actually have to use some proprietary Nvidia Wifi dongle attached to the PC?  Oh....well that is dumb then lol.  Would be decent if it was maybe streamed to a laptop or bigger tablet screen (even with the 100Feet limit) then you could enjoy a near similar experience while just relaxing on the couch with the TV in the background.

I don't think it requires a dongle, but it uses a different transmission standard than typical WiFi. Something involving nvidia's grid protocol, or that's what I've read at various tech sites, anyway. A wireless router would still be needed, though.

I would truly love this feature if it were stream-able across your internet connection to any location. That would be a game-changer - and would allow PC gaming to be very portable and high quality. But I don't know, man, I just don't see many uses for streaming within the same household. Different strokes for different folks, I suppose.

I would absolutely state I would buy this if it streamed PC games across the internet - even if it required high speed broadband, if Shield could do that it would be amazing. Sadly, it doesn't.

This is pretty much what I was thinking when I read about this. However, most console ports on PC will play ok with a controller so that could open up a few more games that would work with this.

I think the biggest issue is that you have to been at your house to stream games to it. If I'm at home I would just play the games on my PC. I'm not really seeing the benefit of having this thing at home. Why not just hop on your PC to play a game if you're at home? If it was able to stream the games over the internet fluidly than maybe we would see some better sales.

This just seems like an odd product with very few serious potential buyers. It'll be interesting to see how low these are priced at in 6 - 9 months. thinking.gif

Quick question...

Would I be able to stream WoW to this device from my home PC? This would be very important. I could sit on the couch and play a little while hanging out with the woman. I wouldn't have to concentrate so much on the game and be in a different room.

For that price... it would be worth it.

EDIT: Nevermind. I'm not sure how many keys I could bind. It might be more trouble then it's worth.

That's what I was going to point out.  Not all PC games are controller compatible.  I wouldn't be surprised if that is the only real main hurdle for them to overcome.  Can you play it with a controller (developers actually ship the game with a decent mapping setting)?  Check, good you can use it then.

To give Nvidia the benefit of doubt, it is still in beta. Although, it being released in beta and at this price point makes me not even bat an eye at SHIELD. I doubt you need the power of a Tegra4 to play any of the Android games in the Google Play market. I'm not much of a handheld gamer so correct me if I'm wrong. More so, since only a few PC games are currently supported that I don't play much or at all, count me out. If future development includes being able to play outside of your wifi network and better titles, I might picked one up used for fun tongue.gif

I can't see this taking off.

The era of the hand held gaming devices was dead for a long time.

Parents used to buy their kids gameboys because it was what? $100? Fast forward now you are spending console money on your kid even though you won't even touch it.
