If they where actually forced to buy bigger packs then people would more easily realize how much they are spending. Micro transactions are all about tricking people to spend more. A big DLC does not need to be super expensive and it would not be super expensive as people would not perceive a few character and weapons (weapons that do in fact change game play) as worth more then the actual game.

Lets put this into perspective. A complete game was developed and priced at ~$20 that includes numerous guns, character, maps, all work on the game engine, net code ect. ect. How much of that $20 do you think represents a single character? It sure as hell ain't 1 or 2 $.

Further more DLC's are often not even worked on full time but are something to keep otherwise unneeded employees busy while the studio plans there next title.

Those $2 character packs come with 4 characters each, not just one. Also, worth is very subjective.

I don't see the problem with having developers that aren't doing anything at the time to work on extra content.

Last Light is an easy game because enemy AI is terrible, not because baddies aren't bullet sponges. No amount of DLC is going to fix that. Ranger HC becomes a challenge in resource management later in the game (it's actually unbeatable in certain parts if you haven't managed your ammo conservatively).

AI sure is stupid as a duck. I started this Game straight at Ranger HC - mode and the game isn't hard if you play it wisely and shoot only if it's necessary. That's is the whole point of the Ranger HC -mode, save the bullets. There is some areas where is better just run away from the mutants than start shooting at them and you sure need to use claymores at those "waiting" sections.... But still, the game is easy even at the Ranger HC - mode frown.gif

I get what you are saying about DLC's not being inherently bad. I agree that DLC's can be good and I'm more then happy to pay for good additional content.

The main issue that I have with DLC's is when they are in the style of micro-transactions.

Lets look at Killing floor as an example.

Base game price 17,99€

Downloadable Content For This Game

Killing Floor - Golden Weapons Pack 6,99€
Killing Floor - Robot Special Character Pack 3,99€
Killing Floor - Community Weapon Pack 5,99€
Killing Floor - The Chickenator Pack 3,99€
Killing Floor - Ash Harding Character Pack 3,99€
Killing Floor - Harold Lott Character Pack 3,99€
Killing Floor - Urban Nightmare Character Pack 1,99€
Killing Floor - Steampunk Character Pack 2 1,49€
Killing Floor: Steampunk Character Pack 1,49€
Killing Floor "London's Finest" Character Pack 1,49€
Killing Floor: PostMortem Character Pack 1,49€
Killing Floor: Nightfall Character Pack 1,49€
Killing Floor Outbreak Character Pack 1,79€

Total DLC cost: 40,17€

This is not freaking OK and unfortunately the way most DLC are made thees days.

Another thing that is never OK is day 1 DLC's. I don't care what the excuse is. If it was completed before the release date it should included with the base game. NO exceptions.

There should be a rule that says companies only get to release 1 Paid DLC a year so everything they want to add to the game that year has to be included in that one pack.

You can get the DLC for a margin of that price on greenmangaming. I picked up a few for just a couple of bucks.I got gold weps for 2 bucks, robot for 2, then they had all the cheap ones up for 75% off. I picked up the main game a long time ago for 9.99. Just wait for the DLC to go on sale and you will get it all for around 15-20 tops.

I know you can get them cheaper on sales. I'v seen them -75% on steam too. But this is not just about money but principle as well. I don't want to encourage thees types of mini DLC's as I think they are extremely harmful to the gaming ecosystem and as such I vote with my wallet and don't buy them.

Good news guise! Season Pass is only $15, and the best part is nobody knows what's in it other than the names of the content.

The Faction Pack
The Tower Pack
The Developer Pack
The Chronicles Pack.
A new weapon, exclusive to Season Pass buyers - the Abzats - will also become available when you purchase the Pass.

Already known...those are story missions. The likes of, you know, those which development "started" after the game was "finished". lachen.gif

From what I've gathered, The Developer Pack could be The Developer Room, a "mission" in which you're thrown inside a room with all the game's weapons. The others seems to be extra missions for the Reds, Nazis, Hamza, etc.

But as I've said, the missions are already listed in the Chapters if you use certain "methods", you just can't select them or CTD, probably cause everything is in place(configs, pointers, etc, etc) except some files. Now you can continue praising Metro:LL, 4A and it's "awesome DLC" yessir.gif

EDIT: Factions Pack is some sort of Pre-Order DLC on Xbox360. Abzats is just the Automated Heavy Shotgun from the first game. You know, that monster which made gelatin of everything while eating shells biggrin.gif

Like it or not DLC is here to stay. In fact, what's so different about DLC vs. "expansion packs" from back in the day? (MOHAA?)

While I would agree nickel and diming us to death isn't cool, $15 for hours of entertainment is cheap...end of story. People pay $8 for a pack of cigarettes?

Hell, I remember paying $75 for Street Fighter 2 on the SNES back in 1992....

Play it again! Get all the cheevos you didn't get the first time. Do a nonlethal playthrough if you didn't do that on the first run. Or vice versa.

thumb.gif I am very much looking forward to playing from different characters' perspectives. I will also pay monehs for a Volt Driver.

I agree, I like poking the DLC whingers with a stick. poke.gif That might not have been entirely obvious from my post though. tongue.gif Tomb Raideresque multiplayer only and costume DLC can go bite the big one though. Why not make some additional tombs, or plot from another characters perspective?
