Intel i3 HD4000 3.3GHz vs Intel Atom N230 1.6 GHz

I have an Acer Aspire Revo 1600 with 4GB of RAM running XBMC in Windows 8, and I am looking at putting together the following build to replace it for my HTPC:

Gigabyte H77N
Kingston KHX1600C10D3B1K2/16G 16GB Kit 2X8GB 1600MHz
Intel Core i3 3225
Apex MI-008 mITX Case w/ built in 250W PSU
Crucial M4 64GB SSD (boot drive)
Toshiba HDKPC08 3TB SATA3 7200RPM 32MB Cache

Will I notice a considerable upgrade in performance with this build compared with my old Acer Aspire Revo 1600?
Also, I'm not sure if this is even an option for the Apex MI-008 case but can I put a standalone graphics card in there too at some point in the future?

How does the i3's HD4000 compete with the nVidia ION LE onboard GPU?

Thanks,
My System

Yes. There's a huge difference between the Atom and an i3.

Good to know... I have narrowed it down to these two CPUs with integrated graphcis now.

Which one is better for HTPC playback in 1080p for XBMC / Netflix HD and why?

i3 3225

or

AMD A4-5300

Thanks

They'll both playback 1080p without struggling - the A4 will have slightly better graphics performance, whereas the i3 has much better overall CPU performance. Either way, they're both great choices. It's up to you smile.gif
