I WAAAY prefer eyefinity setups(I call both NVidia and amd eyefinity FYI) because you don't have to wear anything, they work great with video editing and work station and with AMD's eyefinity at least... it works with almost every game natively ANYWAYS.
Occulus will take new stuff with new drivers with new graphics card support and it just looks...dumb.

I'd much rather spend 400$ on a triplicate of 1366x768 screens and set up some low spec Eyefinity instead of wearing a headset like that, wearing a gaming headset is irritating enough, add that occulus thing... yeah i'd be too annoyed of the things weight to actually be that taken away by it.

Where as an eyefinity set up bam 3 screens automatic resolution support. max graphics... aaah sit back and watch that game in its full span glory...

Im standing behind the ultrawide screens(21:9s) and the eyefinity set ups, just like when I said 3dVision would never take of, and it never really did.
3dvision was a gimmick, and so will this occulus thing.

Don't mean to be a debidowner but yeah...I wanna see more ultra wide screens and higher pixel densities more common on gaming rigs. I'm not one for VR, and 3dVision junk unless I can do it without wearing something.
Like the 3DS
Gimme a screen for my PC that does that without glasses or goggles and i'd totally be fore 3dvision, yeah!.

I totally understand where you are coming from but honestly surround and 3D are 2 very different areas. I also do believe that Ocolus Rift might not take off but it might also suprise everyone out there. This thing is much different than 3Dvision as far as I know. Also for Virtual Reality to happen, we might always need such headsets.

Maybe later down the road the resolution will be better. Also why do you think 1080p is a low aspect ratio? Do you think the image will not really surround the view?

Yeah 3D vision has lots of problems and maybe diminishing, however when it is done right, it is something amazing.

Hey, Milwaukee huh?

I live on the north side of Racine county myself.

And 3Dvision is great, if you have the right hardware. I don't, but I do have a 3D tv. Problem is the tv introduces too much processing lag to play many types of games. Seems like an RTS or mmo, stuff where a little lag doesn't hurt, are about all I can manage on my tv.

It isn't a matter of thinking that 1080p has a low aspect ratio, it IS a low aspect ratio. Look at their diagrams, they are shooting for a huge fov. Stretching out the resolution of 1920x1080 over that kind of area will require much higher resolution to negate eyestrain.

And 3Dvision has problems? Pfft. The technology works wondrously, the problems are in the software. Watching any movie on 3Dvision is flawless.

Have you ever tried NVidia 3D?

Because I have surround, and 3D!
And yet I just played MLL in 3D instead of surround, because IMO 3D is better than surround.

Surround is nice! But all it really gives you is peripheral vision! Whereas 3D is like looking through a frame into the game world coolsmiley.png
It's like looking out the window vs looking at a photo of looking out the window!
And it's a technology that the military have been using for ages, because of how good it is to see detail!

But if you have indeed tried it, then I am surprised at your take on it all! smile.gif

Only problem with 3D surround is that you need a hell of a lot of hardware to crank up the settings.

I wouldn't even consider it without a second titan, but I would need three new monitors and the 3dvision kit to do so. Unfortunately I cannot seem to find any real desire to play games anymore, and as much as I love hardware... it would just be a waste for me sadly.

2 years ago, if I'd had the income I have now....

What I meant was of course software support. Unfortunately some developers give a rat's ass more attention than 3Dvision. Also thanks god Helix came up with his fixes for 3D.

Movies are great though.

I was just playing Skyrim in 3D and man the game is amazing. I wonder if Ocolus will bring a better reality to the game.

Will you be buying the Ocolus Rift?

Same here.

Not enough time or desire to play games.

If this was being done by NVidia. And had as much compatibility as 3D vision, then I would!
But I can't see this being anywhere near as compatible redface.gif

That's my only concern actually.

Will every single game need a patch to work or something? Because so far it seems so.

I might be wrong but at the end of the day Ocolus Rift is also based on stereoscopic vision (again I might be wrong) so maybe since 3Dvision is also stereoscopic, perhaps all games that work nice under 3Dvision, might also work for Ocolus Rift. I don't mind them not having head tracking function but being inside the game would be awesome.
