I accidentally changed the name of my SSD to "disk" from "Samsung 840 Pro ..." in Disk Management while updating the driver. How can I change it back to Samsung 840 Pro? Here is a snip showing what I mean. Look at the highlighted words in Disk Management showing the name of the drive as "disk.". BTY, the other disk is a Seagate HDD ST1000 .... I'm using Windows 7 64-bit.

How will that change the name of the SSD to its correct name in disk management instead of just simply "disk"? I am not wanting to change the name of the disk volume label.

Notice the HDD is still correctly named ST1000 .... The SSD used to be named *840 Pro ...." instead of the word "disk" that it was changed to.

You know how the drives are given their correct name in disk management to start with. It was correctly named before I clicked on something wrong and changed it.

At the time, I was trying to update the IRT driver from 12.5 to 12.6 when this happened. Also, for some reason, it wasn't updated to 12.6 even though the program said that the update was successful.

We can see in the "disk properties" that it still has "SCSI Samsung 840 ....." I want to change it back to its correct name.

Click on the lower attachment for a clearer view.

In Registry, you have to find "Friendly Name" for that drive and change to whatever it needs to be, Just be careful to find the right disk.

Thank you everyone for all your suggestions. I really appreciate the help.

I managed to fix it so the SSD drive was identified correctly. To fix it, I simply updated the driver from 12.5.0.1066 to 12.6.0.1033. See the screen captures below. The lower attachment opens into a larger screen shot.
