HDD diagnostic help please

So just today my older brother who lives in Paris, France, called me saying that he's noticing something somewhat strange with his ASUS notebook (NV56-something).

One thing worth mentioning is that, he's already had to replace the HDD in that notebook, the one that came with the it originally died on him a couple of months ago, he had that one replaced with a brand new one.

But just today, or to be more accurate, a couple of days ago, he's noticed that every now and then, the notebook takes a long time to load (from the time the notebook boots, to when the HDD activity LED stops).

He sent me a picture of a HD Tune test he performed, and I would like for you guys to take a look at it to see is this tells us something regarding the drive itself (how's performing, stability, etc etc).

Sorry for the quality but my brother is not that tech savvy:

Thanks you guys.

speed looks good. what does the health tab have to say? is the task bar filled with apps running at startup? antivirus can really slow down boot times. how much RAM does it have and how much is in use? if he's running out of physical RAM it use the HD as virtual memory which is uber S L O W.

Thanks for the reply mate.

I just emailed him asking for a picture showing:

1) HDTune's health tab
2) CCleaner's startup tab (it shows which and how many processes run at boot).

I also told him to check whether his AV is running some kind of quick scan or whatever at boot.

That speed is crap, something is running in the background doing something as you should not be seeing such huge drops like that.

And I would suspect that it does not have enough ram for the amount of crap he is trying to run in the background on top of what he normally does. As I bet his page file is getting written too like crazy. Pretty much same your saying about the ram .

the drop off is normal. standard hard drives with platters will slow transfer rates as it moves toward the center of the disk.
