This is yet another "which ATi GPU to buy" thread
An intensive google search still leaves me wondering which one to get

I've narrowed it down to the following two:

Sapphire 7870 XT
XFX 7870 GHZ Tahiti (Supposedly a Limited Edition exclusive to a UK retailer)

I do plan on overclocking, so ideally the cards shouldn't be voltage locked. I'm getting mixed results from a google search. Although I suspect the Sapphire is unlocked.

Sapphire is apparently more quiet but the online store where I'm buying it does not have the Never settle Bundle
The XFX has the games but some people complain that the cooler is noisy and that XFX has dropped in quality?

Your thoughts, suggestions please!

I always buy ATI/AMD Sapphire Cards.. I like the technology they put into the cooling and the cards are very durable.
I don't know if it is a Reference or Non Reference card though.. that would be the important question.

XFX have had very poor quality in the 7xxx series, and since there is NO plans on waterblocks for the Tahiti LE, for overclocking, you will need the BEST and more quiet cooler. The Sapphire is incredible value for money, and Sapphire have had lots of success in this series. Lots of brilliant reviews and the sapphire is problably more highly binned, so you may have a chance to overclock to the performance level of a 7970.

I went with the sapphire and I cannot complain about temps or how quiet it is tongue.gif

try newegg? I think they still have the bundle.

Here is a 7870 XT Ghz edition so it is clocked up to 1050mhz for the same price as the 7870 xt non-Ghz I bought that is clocked at 975 Mhz, with the bundle, and a 15 MiR.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202025

I don't go over 90C EVER when OC'd to 1200/1500 after 4+ hours of playing games thumb.gif
But I honestly haven't found the need to OC this card (yet), I can run everything maxed out at stock speeds and it'll never go above 75C (after 4+ hrs)

The fans/casing looks horribly cheap, but it gets the job done when my room turns into a hotbox hehe

OP go with the Sapphire HD 7870 XT . UNBEATABLE PRICE PERF at 185 pounds. stock performance on par with HD 7950(800 Mhz). overclocked to 1.2 Ghz matches HD 7970(925 Mhz). the sapphire card has a much better cooler than xfx.

you can read more about this card here

Seems like the sapphire is the card to go with (by a landslide)

@Sadmoto - Is your card voltage locked?
@ raghu78 - Thats probably where I'm going to buy mine from, just a pity they don't have the games bundle

Thanks for all your input so far.

Im not sure to be honest, I haven't done much with OCing, I only used the catalyst control center slider bars, they have a power bar that lets you go up to 20%, but I believe MSI AB has more options then CCC does tongue.gif

I would look into somewhere that has the bundles and will ship to you, its a steal, even if you have to pay a little extra for shipping.

Sadmodo, the 1050Mhz version you mentioned is based on the Pitcairn core. NOT the Tahiti one, just for you to know biggrin.gif

I own the Sapphire and I kind of love it. For the price it's a killer card and I get the same specs at my buddy's 7950.
It is voltage locked tho and w/ AB you can't change it. For any voltage changes your going to have to force it with the BIOS. But I'm running 1200/1500 constantly and up it to 1250/1600 sometimes when M*ning certain digital currencies. and it runs swell with those clocks, no need to voltage force anything...

Thanks Sadmoto,

The only "reputable" dealer I can find a Sapphire 7870XT is with Amazon. Which don't have the Game bundle
There are a few other places but they either all a bit suspect or more expensive.

Found a 7950 second hand for £200 delivered.
Which I suppose I could stretch my budget to, but it's a Gigabyte WF3 Rev 2.0 so it's voltage locked
I've been reading into flashing the 7970 BIOS ...
(Mind starts wandering)
