Halp! Windows 7 boot loop, and loss of display.

Hi All!

I was playing some Skyrim earlier, and recording video like a thousand times before, when I had to hard reset twice because of freezing (freezing on the current frame, no loss of audio, total loss of control). The cause of this instability is not known.

After that, I was getting stuck in a boot loop that would make it to the windows "colored globes" screen, then just restart, and do it again. I tried the start up repair, and safe mode with no luck. I also tried a CMOS clear, and I could not get back into windows again. There was an error that the start up repair found an issue with the disk/files, and failed at trying to fix it.

I decided to bite the bullet, and just reformat. I re-installed windows, a few drivers, and all of a sudden I started loosing my display at the same point. The system continued to run, but my monitor would just lose signal.

I let it sit for about 2 hours, and I took out one of my GPUs. The system then started. I tried both GPUs in the primary slot, and they both worked. I then re-installed SLI, and I am now writing this with both GPUs working.

So, I am baffled. At first I thought the drive got corrupted by the hard reset, but then I get a similar issue after a reformat. Could the drive be going bad? Is it something else?

Edit: I had not changed any hardware or drivers recently.

Any help, or sharing similar experiences, is greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Sounds like your drivers just took a poop? Not sure? You should have tried doing a quick restore to see if that may have fixed it. Oh well. Everything is good!

Well that's where I'm not so sure. It was fine for about an hour after the Windows installation, and then I started to lose my display. But, so far so good for the past hour or so. Unfortunately, I didn't keep restore points, but I kept it on this time. I don't plan on installing much until I narrow this down though. Nice Avatar BTW!
