It is legitimate, as it's stock vs stock. This was argued ad infintum when the 680 came out, and I was hoping we were collectively past it...

It's a legitimate comparison, but that doesn't mean it isn't useless for anyone willing to overclock (this entire site).

For me it comes down to price vs performance. I will own either depending on whats out at the time.

Both sides have pros and cons no matter what the fanboys will tell you. For AMD price/performance is always a positive as AMD tends to discount more heavily than Nvidia. AMD cards in this generation also have far more compute power than Kepler cards which have been seriously crippled in that area. Continuing the comparison between 7xxx vs 6xx, AMD cards have more VRAM with a wider bus and more overall bandwidth than even the mighty 690. AMD's driver team has also been very much improved over the last year delivering plenty of betas and game-specific fixes in a timely manner as well as making significant performance progress with the new GCN architecture. They've also got a fix for the frame time issues in the works and are continuing to offer the best games bundle I can recall seeing in some time.

Don't forget though that Nvidia offers a lot of advantages of their own as well and both companies make very good products...

AMD has much better resell value because of bitmining..

AMD has the sweet spot card in the HD7950 which can get down in the $269 price point with 4 free games but if you buy the right brand that overclocks well then it runs at the 670/680GTX and HD7970/7970Ghz price range.

Your not limited as Eyefinity on the HD7950 shows huge grains over HD5870/HD6970 thanks to that 3Gb of ram as my current card is set to 1002/1502 on stock voltage.

I have ran AMD since HD4890/HD5850 CX / HD6950 flashed 6970 and all have payed for an upgrade to which i can't say the same for Nvidia.. sold my HD6950 for $181 and bought the HD7950 for $269 and got some real nice games.
