[Build Log] Project TARDIS (350D XL-ATX MOD)

CLOSSED
I drop the project

I´ve been waiting some months for the 900D..
Got tired of waiting and decided to look for another case.
Soon I realized that I was in love with the design of the 900D but it was so big for me T_T
Then Corsair announced the 350D... but it was to small for me xD

Finally both cases will arrive at the same time to my country xD

I know there´s a 650D V2 comming up but probably it wont fit my motherboard, so why would I wait? let´s mod a 350D!

I call this Project TARDIS because of the UK TV series "Doctor Who", who´s protagonist has machine (called TARDIS) that everyone in the show says "its bigger on the inside"´.
It won´t have the apearance of the Tardis, but.. it´s a mATX case holding the tallest motherboard and the longest PSU (I think) on the market, so why not?

This month (or maybe june, can´t remember) will be 10 years since my first PC build back in 2003, when I was 13 years. Only added a CD burner, but I had to dissasembly al the computer to get that done and I really enjoyed it. It was a Pentium 4 with 1,10 Gb or so of hard drive.. and I was using 2 HDDs to get that size! what a crappy computer, even back then xD
I have built lots of sistems since them, mostly painting and custom lenght cables (only cut, solder and heatshrink, not crimping or sleeving), also to much "just put the pieces together" but I have never really done a physic mod so I think it is time to do some serious stuff.
I´ll probably be using the help of a couple of friends to get some pieces done, but I will try it myself first, let´s see if I´m good at this.

This is the hardware I will be using (couple of things may change): Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
Motherboard: MSI Big Bang x-power II X79
CPU: Intel Core i7 3930K
Cooler: Corsair H100i
PSU: Corsair AX1200i
GPU: Asus GTX 550 TI
RAM: 32Gb (4x8) Corsair Dominator Platinum 1866mhz CL9 1,5V
CASE: Corsair 350D
FANS: Silverstone SP123
SSD: Corsair Force Series GT 120Gb
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 3tb 7200rpm

I have almost all of that hardware, but:
-Still waiting for the release of the case in my country (less than a couple of weeks, hopefully)
-Saving money for the 700 series (780 dual SLI some day...)
-I already have some Corsair SP and AF fans but I´ll wait to have the case to see how many fans I need and will change them all by Silverstone AP123.
-I´m trying to sell some non pc related possessions, and if it all goes well I´ll end up geting twice the ram I have tongue.gif

All custom lenght cables of all kind (usb, psu, sata...), made by myself, all with MDPC sleeving (if it gets to tight maybe I will need to switch to paracord for this project, but I need to check out also the diference when bending both materials)

The colors will be mostly black and silver/grey but will also use some blue to mach the fans and the leds on the motherboard.

I´ll prepare the case to acomodate a couple of rads, but will be only air cooling + H100i for the moment.

I will try not to modify the external appearance of the case.

To much said already, I´ll keep you updated thumb.gif

Constructive criticistm is always wellcome!

I'm looking forward to it. If I can snag an overclockable matx 990fx I wouldn't mind going back to matx.

when you get a chance, see if the h100i will work with push/pull in the front

as well as being able to have the 2 HDD bays in the bottom, take a pic if you can smile.gif

I can tell you whiout having the case xD

The tubing is long enough and there´s enough room for an H100i and 2 sets of fans.
You can´t use it even in push only with the HDD cages, you would have to remove them, but you will probably be able to fit the HDD cage between the PSU and the rad if you make the holes to fix it to the case.
I will take some pictures when I get it showing the room with a 200mm PSU and H100i on push/pull thumb.gif

@Boi 1da: Thank you wink.gif This forum has so much ideas that you can´t go back to a normal setup after reading a couple of worklogs xD

Subbed !
Can't wait to see how you will fit that huge board in a such tiny case drum.gif

Do you already own the AX1200i PSU? It seems a little overkill for 3930K, 2 GPU and 1 HDD! Would personally go for AX860 with that setup smile.gif
