build help. no display

Thread Starter
A friend gave me a pile of parts today to build for him (new in box)

ASrock 990fx extreme3. Fx-8350,660ti, 8gb g.skill and a roswell green (not sure on the watts)

I put it together and first boot I got a message along the lines of improper boot device reboot or select another.

Rebooted and no display.

Tried another PCI lane. Still no display.

Checked the CPU no bent pins.

Tried my spare 560ti. Still no display.

Tried my corsair gs 600w psu. Still no diplay.

Tried a single stick of ram along with many others still no display.

Retraced the wires and hooked up the bare minium and still nothing.

Im an intel guy so I dont have any other cpus to try but at this point im thinking he got a bad CPU .

Do you guys have any others ideas or options I can try before he needs to go through the RMA CPU?

Thanks for any imput!

Does your friend have any AM3 CPU? Phenom II x4 or something?
EDIT
Any processor from Sempron 140 and later will do.

check your bios chip in the mobo please refer to this on what i looks like http://www.asrock.com/support/index.asp?cat=FindBIOS. if the sticker shows 1.30, 8350 should work right out of the box. if its lower than 1.30, you can either request for a bios chip in ASROCK for free or get some cheap am3 cpu, sempron/athlon should do the trick then flash your bios to the latest bios available 1.50.
