Safe settings to use with an i5-3570k w/o testing

Hey, what are some settings for the 3570K I can use for an overclock that's almost certain to work?

I don't want to bother with actually testing the OC with prime and what not.

leave voltage on auto, set your turbo multiplier to 45 or below.

Yes, but what type of cooling are you on? Are you on the stock cooler?

Uhhhh turn your multiplier to 1 and set your voltage to 12.99v tongue.gif

Even at stock settings, you might not have a stable system.

I would also NOT do what IBooNI said either. If you have a crappy chip like mine, then the voltage could go all the way up to 1.4v (this HAS happened to me at 4.3ghz....why I do not know, but it did/does).

Seriously. Try 4.5 ghz at 1.3v and TEST IT OUT!!! Just let prime 95 run over night. All you have to do is sleep!!!

So what you are suggesting is for him to do the traditional guess and check for his oc, when that is what he specifically did not want to do? I told him what he could do to oc his machine with a high probability for it to work, which is what he is asking for.

Nah, not a stock cooler. I got this one:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103099

Yes, I'm aware of the fact I might get a chip that sucks hard at OCing and it won't work, hence why I stated "almost certain" to work.

What I will do is check the temperature and voltage. What tools should I use for that? CPU-Z and Intel TAT? Or have those been updated/replaced with other tools? What are good ranges for these values?

Essentially yes.

Sorry, but too many things could go wrong. Just because an OC will work for 99.9999999% of people does NOT mean it will work for the OP. I know of a guy on OCC that was REALLY unlucky and can't even hit 4ghz on his i7 3770K. My chip like I mentioned would go ballistic and melt with what you suggested.

I would much rather force the OP to run prime 95 over night with almost no effort, than to feel bad for him when he looses a bunch of work to a BSOD.

@OP: You want Hardware monitor (made by the same people as CPU-Z) and prime 95. thumb.gif
