So do you guys think they won't be releasing a 780 with more GDDR like they did with the 600s and 580s? I'm concerned they might just tell us we'd have to shell out for a Titan if we want more than 3GB.

That is a very good question, and one that can't be answered by looking at the current generation.

The closest NVIDIA analog to a late-comer being largely identical to a product released months ago is the GTX 650 Ti BOOST, which is identical to the GTX 660 except for having one less SMX cluster. While there were 3GB GTX 660 models, there haven't been any 3GB GTX 650 Ti-B units released (but there have been 1GB units).

However, since the entire raison d'etre of the GTX 650 Ti-B was to produce a lower-cost 660-like substitute to fit the $170 price point and do battle against the Radeon 7850, a 3GB model of that type wouldn't make any economic or marketing sense.

Long story short: Who knows?...

I'm not saying I want the 780 to cost more than $500, I just think it will. Either way, I've decided I'm definitely staying with my Titans and I made a promise to myself that I wouldn't buy another video card for at least 18 months. I think Titan will remain at the top of the charts for another year or so (unless AMD shocks us all with a 20nm VI at the end of the year)...

Unless you're planning on running 1440/1600p surround, 3GB is more than enough.

TODAY it's more than enough. But considering we're using almost 2gb at 1200p TODAY, how long will 3gb be enough is the question.

Probably not much longer once the new console games start utilizing more VRAM...

Long enough for everyone who is worried about it to upgrade to some Maxwell/VI based part next year.

I'm going to promise myself that I will see you make at least 2 GPU changes in that time. tongue.gif
