GTX 580 SLI to GTX 780

Is anyone else in the same boat?
I had my 580's and they aren't exactly showing their age and still max out almost every game (except AA - which I use FXAA for) on my 120hz monitor.
I almost purchased the GTX Titan with my tax return money and glad that I didn't - seeing that it's performance was barely better than my two 580's...

Also from the previews, this seems to be roughly 13% slower than the GTX Titan, which from my calculations will still be slower than my current setup...

I know this is still speculation, but if this card costs anything more than $600, then I definitely will not be purchasing one of these...
Also as my whole system is a few generations old, i'd have to basically re-think/build everything...

I guess its 1.5gb.. If its 3gb there is no point in upgrading to gtx780. And with a 1080P screen 1.5gb is (just) enough.

yep thumb.gif

the thing is also.. the OP is used to have 2 video cards.. so if he had no complains and it is just the performance that matters
he even could get two 7950 built on 7970 platines and OC them. he´d have a similar performance to 2 680´s..
if his hardware allows it.. or wait until the new nvidia generation is on the market and get some cheap 670´s 3gb
for sli when the prices drop.. he´d send every titan card to the sand where it´s silcium came from tongue.gif

look at karlitos valley benchmark thread.. its very informative

i'm in the same boat. so it's not worth going to 780 from 2x 650 ti boost? they're about the same performance as 2 580s

it all depends on your resolution and other usage like mods, forced downsampling and stuff like that.
if you go over 1080p and use mods it will bring the sys to its knees.. if not you may be fine for a (maybe even)longer while.

Yeah I have the 1.5GB versions and never really had any SLI compatibility issues and I don't turn up AA in most games...

I guess you could say it's that itch to upgrade - sadly so far it looks like I will be skipping this generation of GPU's also, and my next upgrade will pretty much be the whole system...
Sucks trying to keep up with computers...

Oh well, there goes more money into my car...

edit: Maybe get an appraisal for my entire system first...

I'm actually in the same exact boat as you are. I don't expect the GTX780 to be a better performer than the TITAN, the only way I would go to a GTX 780 would have to be another sli setup. These 580s still are maxing everything I throw at them with good fps, so im not sure yet either.

It will definitely NOT be better than the titan because NVidia would shoot themselfes in the knee thru such a move.
We are living in a materialistic and profit oriented world. Ferengi´s would celebrate every ***n day on this planet.
