Radiator fans cable management - Page 3

I make my own but agree with 'lowfat'. They're the most time consuming cables to make and no one would buy mine if I charged an hourly rate for making them as there's close to 2 hours work in each one.

They end up looking like this:

Since my test station (radiator fan testing, pump testing, motherboard cooling fans, gpu current draw testing) uses 4 different radiators (I can cool 3 entire systems at the station and then there are the cases I pump cooling water to) I have a real mess when it comes to fan wiring. The issue that seems to contribute to the mess being so large is the fact that every fan needs its cabling made longer. I want to search for a round connector (instead of the flat type) as I feel the round connector will better adapt to the addition of mesh covering of the wires .I want to maintain the ability to disconnect the fans from their lenghting cable Replacing all the existing molex connectors with connectors more pleasing to the eye is also a goal(black and round would also look nice). It seems molex connectors had being cheap and quick in mind when they were created as they certainly do not add to a rigs appearance. The cheap ones that do not retain the wires well have to go as well as those that are hard to fit with the other side. I really do not like molex on a pump but it seems to be an industry standard for an electrical accessory.

oh? I didn't know that they look like that (I always thought they're Y-shaped). can you tell me how far apart are those connectors? thanks, and repped. thumb.gif

btw I'm going to use 480 rads, so I'll need 1 to 4 adapters. bitfenix doesn't seem to make 1 to 4, unfortunately. frown.gif

Yeah that was why I mentioned joining two together or you could use a simple double splitter on the last connection. The wire between connectors is about 180mm

The XSPC cable you linked to only uses two wires cause it is really just for running fans at 12 volt. You won't get any fan RPM feedback to the Aquaero with it.

The only way to do exactly what you want is to make your own cables. These ones are very close though

if I use a double splitter on the third connection, wouldn't the last two fans get less current than the first two? or it doesn't work that way? confused.gif

yes, I've checked the black out cables, but they're somewhat too short.. I guess I'll try making one myself. it doesn't look that tedious imo.. might as well try sleeving while I'm at it. not to mention that I can also make it a PWM splitter that draws power from the PSU directly (the aquaero 5 has one PWM fan chanel).

thanks! thumb.gif

No since the power source has variable current (not fixed). When more current is requested, the power supply will deliver.

What fans are you using? Sorry if you already mentioned this but they have to be PWM to use them with a PWM splitter. The PWM splitter runs all the power for the fans to 12V since the voltage is kept at a constant. Then it runs the PWM signal to all the fans and returns the RPM from one of the fans. If you plug normal 3 wire fans into a PWM splitter all the fans will run at 100% and all your aquero will get is an RPM signal.

Maybe you already knew that but I just wanted to say just in case. If you go the PWM route it is a lot less heat inside of the fan controller and uses none of the controllers wattage limit.
