I guess I can understand a tax on all M rated games...I mean it isn't all that much different than a tax on cigarettes and alcohol. It is something meant as a luxury to consenting adults.

...that doesn't make me agree with it though mad.gif However, I know we need to pay taxes...it is just a shame that I see very little of the tax dollars back since most of the programs they are spent on I don't qualify for. However, they don't need to go towards violence victims. The evening news causes far more copy cat crimes than any game does.

Maybe the analogy is like constantly giving money to a friend who spends all his 7 figure salary on eating out and an accountant to tell him he needs more money.

Freedom of religion is based on the tenets of freedom of speech and expression... Even if you don't belong to a particular religion, why would you give power to an entity that can create and thus force one on you?

I'm glad I didn't vote last November.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_law_in_the_United_States#Prohibited_persons

A prohibited person (under the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act) is restricted to owning a rifle, not necessarily using or discharging a rifle. I would assume the original poster you quoted was referring to a 5 year old being allowed to discharge a firearm as opposed to a 5 year old walking to a gun store and purchasing a gun off the shelf which would be understandably ridiculous for a 5 year old to accomplish. Obviously, the owner would be under liability if the 5 year old discharging the firearm would accidentally harm a person.

In terms of taxing violent video games, I'm not quite sure if the purpose makes much sense at all. Currently states have crime victim compensation, and there is always the legal system to compensate as well. Is there a purpose in giving even more money to victims of violent gun crimes and if so, how much should we be giving them? How would we quantify the value of a child compared to a lawyer? And if we start taxing violent video games, why stop there; start taxing violent lyrics in music, violent movies, and pretty much all violence in our culture.

As others have already said, this just seems to be "another" gateway to create a new tax.

Joe Biden has a point. Pokemon is extremely violent with the worst form of animal cruelty I've ever witnessed in games. The taxes raised from taxing pokemon games should be donated towards putting away homeless animals, so they won't die a crueler fate when humans capture them in tiny pokeballs and force them into fighting to the death for fortune and fame.

Think Nintendo bribed him? biggrin.gif On a side note its always the same. People cut and add taxes to thing they never use and those that do use that are the ones that suffer. Do you think any of them play those games? nope don't think so. To make my point, its the same as social security. The people who are trying to cut it are the same ones that are not affected when it gets cut. Sure as a political I always make people believe that I'm also being affected but when I'm getting a fat paycheck and various tax breaks, I'm never gonna be affected by "petty problems" like these.

Damn. SMH
