120Hz monitor not being used to it's potential

Hey guys, so I've bought Asus's 144hz monitor, now I've noticed many of my games all cap at 60, I've tried having VSycn on and off but still capped with many games.
Is there a software or anything I can do to force 144hz or even at least 120hz for all my games?

Or will I have to manually set EVERY game by going to their config files?

Most games will set to your desktop refresh rate, others you may have to set the refresh rate manually in the game.

Which games in particular are you seeing capped to 60Hz?

^This. I hate to ask something so simple, but did you go into your monitor properties and bump the refresh rate up from 60Hz? I missed this myself when I first got my 120Hz monitor and windows will usually default them to 60Hz.

Yeah with some games I just turn V-Sync on and they cap at 144 FPS instead of 60 FPS. This might be a good read for you. Some games don't want to play nice above 60 Hz (Skyrim is a good example from the games I play - the physics just goes nuts on the game). In those cases, you can use Display Changer to automatically change the refresh rate when the game starts and then return back when the game closes.

Fiirst off, Thanks for the fast reply.
Specifically right now, Mass Effect 1 and 2.
Those are my first two that I'm trying to get up and running at 144hz.

Shaitan, don't worry I made sure first thing I did when I got my monitor today was, reinstall drivers, and change refresh rate to 144hz from it's default 60.

Good, lol. I think I spent a good 30 minutes using my monitor before I realized that I hadn't changed that. redface.gif

Ahh I've had similar issues with things, I resort to freaking out and calling for an RMA, then i realize it's my fault, lol.

You could try and use Nvidia Inspector and force off Vsync and then use the framerate limiter if you wish but it maxes at 120hz iirc.

Its worth a shot imo thumb.gif
