Flashing Custom ROm for Galaxy S3, noob questions.

So trying to get on a custom rom for my S3, found a rom I like but under supported devices it only lists the european S3 and not my american version. Does that matter? Also, instructions say nothing about rooting first as a prereq.......Is this not needed anymore?

Its been ahwile since I did this. So just making sure before I proceed. Here is the link for the ROM im thinking of using:

Any suggestions on a better one are also welcome. Thanks for helping a android noob.

AFAIK you will need a European phone because they use different chips and flashing using the wrong one MAY brick the phone.

I would root it anyway just in case but not install that rom.

Only the i9300 is supported by that rom, which is the international version. Don't install that if you got your phone from any of the 4 carriers.

That section of XDA Galaxy S III is for INTERNATIONAL VERSION ONLY. This is important because the 2 CPUs in the international version and the North American Version are different and cannot be used interchangeably as a result. If u search XDA for Galaxy S III you should come up with 5 results or soemthing, 4 for north american and 1 for international (yes its important because of signal differences (CDMA and GSM) as well as model number (T-Mobile version is different)). Pick your carrier and choose ROM.

Sob i found the section on roms suppirting my version.however the guide to unlock my phone and then flash it was way more complicated then it was in the past. I tried and coyldent even unlock or root my phone let alone flash a custom rom. Depressing was hoping to get all this bloat off of here.

It's actually too easy, you just have to flash a custom recovery using Odin, then you can root or install custom ROMs from there.

Unlocking, as in carrier unlocking is easy too.

I tried and oding kept failing. First it had me do some lame boot chain flash, then flash custom recovery, but the flashing of the recovery is what kept failing.

And although my phone works fine, its not recognized when I plug it into my computer anymore.....mad.gif
