I would avoid refurbished as much as possible unless it is your last option.

I did found one laptop that is decent.

http://store.acer.com/store/acerna/en_US/pd/productID.258312300/parentCategoryID.60084600/

It has core i5 with GT 630m which is really nice for your tasks.
It can be used both for gaming if you want or non-gaming. If non-gaming make sure you to turn off the dedicated GPU to prolong your battery life.

By the way, why 17.3" laptop? Those aren't even portable at all just a mere desktop replacement. You'll be lugging that laptop around which it is absolutely pointless if you want "portable."

I you don't mind refurb, or 17.3", I'd go with the 1st one you posted, with the A8. Though how is it only $190?

Refurbished laptops are worth the gamble, as long as you get a new warranty. I know Amazon and Newegg has such policy, I think.

Usually they ranged from returns from someone who hasn't opened the box, to major repair works.

I'd go with the Samsung one. Their reliability is a lot better than say HP from my personal experience.

I wouldn't go with refurbished items for laptops too... It is laptops after all and can't be fixed cheaply.
