Worst Value for Money Rig CONTEST!

Thread Starter
Ok so I decided to do this contest. Basically, you have to build a rig that has a terrible value for money. I will take quite a few things into account, but the idea is basic. Expensive + slow = win.

RULES!!!
Read them all. Requirements (Click to show)
The rig must contain
  • 1 CPU (Motherboard must support that socket)
  • 1-8 Sticks of memory (Motherboard must support # of ram sticks you use)
  • 1-2 CPU Cooler (Must be able to fit in case, and clear ram)
  • 1 Motherboard
  • 1-infinite HDD/SSD (NOTE: If you pick an SSD, you must include an HDD for storage, this is to avoid people putting 8 20GB SSD's together or similar. Motherboard must also be able to support # of drives you use)
  • 1-4 Video Cards (Motherboard must be able to support # of video cards you use)
  • 1 Case (Must be able to house rig)
  • 1-2 PSU
  • Operating system
  • 1 Monitor (cannot be television)

Merchant Rules (Click to show)
You cannot find these prices on Ebay, Amazon or similar sites. This is because people can possible charge an absoberant amount for a crappy part.
Random Rules (Click to show)
You cannot use a Raid controller, this is to prevent more excessive overpriced SSD purchases.
NO LAPTOP COMPONENTS!!!
How to Earn Points (Click to show)
This is the fun part, earning points. You earn points the following way.
ALL SCORES ARE FROM http://www.passmark.com/index.html and use the search function.
IF you cannot find your component in this, find something very similar (mainly for ram)
Also round all scores to the nearest 2 decimal places ie: 12.63622624 = 12.64
CPU: http://www.cpubenchmark.net/ Score / Price * $ of CPU's
GPU: http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/ Score / Price * # of GPU's
RAM: http://www.memorybenchmark.net/ ((Read + Write) / Latency) / Price * # of modules (If you can do each module separately ie: 2x4GB ram, do each stick separately)
SSD: http://www.harddrivebenchmark.net/ ((Capacity in GB / Price) * Disk Rating) / Price * # of drives (only ssd's)
HDD: (Capacity in GB / Price) * # of drives (only hdd's)
Monitor: (Resolution (in terms of 1080, 720, etc) + Size + Refresh Rate) / Price
Total Price / ( (CPU * 10) + (GPU * 10) + (RAM * 10) + (SSD *10) + (HDD * 10) + (Monitor * 10) ) + Bonuses = Your Score (HIGHER SCORE IS BETTER)

BONUSES:
  • If a component is very prone to failure, 0.5 per component (does not include PSU)
  • If a component is on sale, 1 per component
  • If case is a POS, 0.5 (decided by me)
  • If fans noise level in DB is more then the CFM, 0.5
  • If component is anything someone of this forum would recommend, 1
  • If CPU cooler is worse then stock cooler, 0.5
  • If PSU will catch your house on fire, 0.5
  • If you get fastest ram that motherboard will allow 0.2
  • Having an SSD 0.2

If you think any of the rules should be changed, let me know.
Enter the info into PCPartsPicker.com if you find a part that is not on there, use the Add Custom Part option on the page and input all the info, just makes posts on here simpler. Unless you want to do it the hard way wink.gif

Either I'm missing something or the way to earn points makes no sense at all, currently it is score/price which means what earns you the most points is to find a component with a high score and a low price to make sense it should be price/score so you'll earn more points to find a component with a high price and low score.

Well thats fantastic, make sure YOU do the math... not me... Plus i think I got the ending operation wrong.

You are completely right, im an idiot, did this while i was at work, lol.
Well not really, lets take the 2500k as an example
6391 is the score and the price (according to passmark, which doesnt matter but anyhow) is 269.99.
so
Score/Price = 6391/269.99 instead of Price/Score (your suggestion) = 269.99/6391. One is a small decimal number and the other is a normal sized number. Also thats how passmark did it soooo yeah.

I did get the ending operation wrong, I fixed it. Now Highest score wins, because thats the performance value / total value. Should be right now.
