HP Pavilon dv7 notebook - Radeon 6770M giving me grief!

Hello fellow OC enthusiasts,

About a week ago my dv7 started acting suspiciously...

My first tip off was that a plug in I bought for after effects Element 3D couldn't initialize openGL.

A whole host of other problems followed:

- Catalyst Control Center crashed on startup
- Checked the HP website for my graphics driver, my notebook (d6111x) is no longer listed/supported!?!!? Also used the HP product detection plugin, no cigar
- AMD driver detection software downloaded from the website told me that Catalyst couldn't be installed because my version of the graphics adapter is not supported (Hence why I was scouring the HP website)
- Device manager is telling me that both of my graphics adapters (the intel HD 3000 from the core i7 and the 6770m) are working fine and I tried updating the drivers from the device manager, again no cigar.
- Reinstalled the drivers for both devices, newest versions, nothing.
- Tried to do a System Restore and it failed because C:\Program Files (x86)\AMD AVP\bin (or something very similar, I couldn't replicate that error message so this is my best memory of what it said) could not be replaced with its original copy which I found odd...

One more suspicious thing is that HP connection manager will not start up. I can still connect to the internet directly but without the connection manager I can't operate the bluetooth, no big issue but it was more suspicious behaviour that started around the same time.

I sent this laptop to have its screen repaired after I dropped it and they gave the wrong resolution screen (obviously because my model is now not acknowledged by HP any more) and they apparently found a handful of other issues from the fall impact such as a disconnected graphics adapter, broken webcam and all that has apparently been fixed. They also took a VERY, VEERRRYYY long time with it and the $220 fee I paid just to make a claim to get it repaired (through my Flexirent financing) was refunded due to the wait. Ever since I got it fixed there has been nothing but trouble and I REFUSE to send it back at this very crucial time in my education, I cannot afford to wait or use a substandard loaner laptop for any longer when there is so much work to be done. They also will not replace it due to it being out of warranty, and I'm guessing back to the fact that they don't manufacture it any more.

I am puling my hair out over this, I am currently in year 12 (my last year of high school) and I have a major arts project relying on After Effects that is working on my desktop but needs to be working on my laptop so I can work on it at school.

ANY help is appreciated!!

I know it sounds kinda odd... but have you attempted a reinstall of Windows 7? redface.gif

I know it really sounds weird... but it's saved me a LOT of trial and error issues that take WAAAY too long. >.>
