Fractal Design R4 Radiator Compatibility

I am considering getting what I consider my dream case, the R4 with window for an upcoming build later in the year. Currently it is on the 'egg' for a mere $89.99 with FREE shipping. That is pretty hard to pass up.

I may be watercooling this build, if I can get some finances in order, so I was wondering if something like this would fit in the top of the case. That is a 360 Rad, and it is probably 80mm thick with fans. I could go with a 240 of similar thickness (pull only is my plan) if the 360 Rad won't fit on its own.

Any other tips or recommendations are welcome!

No that wont fit. from my measurements there is only about 55mm of space before RAM becomes an issue, Perhaps with some modding.

These are my measurements on my sig rig. The clearance measurements correspond to the mounts labeled with the same color.

If I've made an error, please let me know, as I made these measurements for myself. >.> Mebbe the filter is only 1mm, that was an estimate.

Edit: Looking again, the way the mounts line up, subtract about 5mm from the center mount's clearance and 6-7mm from the offset.

Looks like a 25 mm thick radiator and a 25mm thick fan. I guess the max to the mobo or ram is about 60mm

Most slim radiators are 30mm and practically all fans are 25mm. There are water cooled R4's out there with 240 rads or 280rads up top. I have seen pics so I know its possible. You can mount a pretty decent sized 280 rad in front if you relocate the hdd's.

I'll be going custom loop soon in my R4 soi have been doing a lot of looking. Hell if you really wanted a thick rad you could always mount it on the top outside of the case thumb.gif

I think that I will probably air cool it for the meantime until I decide if I want to go Haswell down the road. If this deal holds, I might get it tomorrow.

I will look around for mods, but I think that my first WC rig in this thing will be enough of a challenge. Thanks for the tips!
