Unless the thing has degraded due to a huge number of bad sectors developed over time, it's probably the same speed it was 4 years ago when it was brand new, just your expectations ... and the stuff you load on it every day, are more demanding. Replace it with a SSD or at the very least, a faster, bigger HDD. The newest drives today, e.g. WD Blue 1TB with a single 1TB platter in it, are 2-3x faster than drives from 4 years ago, and even the slowest SSD is going to be 5-10X faster on the same (slow) SATA interface.
