First Water Cooling set up! Looking for opinions

First Time water cooling looking for opinions biggrin.gif

Hi, new to the forum and have been doing research about water cooling for a few weeks now, looking to finally begin to finalise my plan for a first time WC set up. Originally I was planning to go CLC, but i decided against it.

System spec:

i5 2500k @ 4.0GHZ 1.25V Aircooled (Planning to take it upto at least 4.5 with WC)
Asrock P67 Extreme 4 Motherboard
8GB of G.Skill Ripjaw DDR 3
512GB Samsung 840 Pro SSD
750W Silverstone strider plus

PARTS
This is the part where I would love some opinion on and I have questions about.

CPU Block: Koolance 380i or EK Supremacy Acetal + Copper
RAD: Alphacool Nexxxos Monsta 360
RAD Fan: 3 x alpenfohn wing boost 120MM or Scythe GT 1850 RPM (Deciding)
RES: EK D5 X-RES 140 Black Acetal (with D5 pump top)
Pump: XSPC D5 Vario
Tubing: XSPC white 1/2" ID 3/4" OD
Fittings:Bitspower compression fittings
Coolant / Additive:Distilled water + additive?? (Need Opinion)

Loop plan:
Planning on a loop of Res -> Pump -> Rad -> CPU -> Res

Questions Time!

1. How are the part choices? Any other recommendation? Slightly worried about the nickel plating of the koolance 380i and the plating of compression fittings flaking off and mixed metals (brass from fittings, nickel from plating on the cpu block and copper rad) causing any form of corrosion. (or should i just stick to EK supremacy with the acetal & copper)

2. What additive should i use with this set up? I read that Koolance strongly advise against silver with their nickel plated 380i block, so that's out of the question... Maybe Liquid Utopia? PT nuke? IandH Deadwater? What's something that act both as a biocide and anti corrosion additive? (if i go with EK supremacy with acetal &copper, i can just use silver coil + anti corrosive??)

3. For the EK Res + D5 pump top, since (I'm guessing) the res auto feeds into the pump top, so the two combined I only require 1 In fitting and 1 out fitting?

Thanks a lot for reading and really looking forward to reading all of the opinions & advice

Welcome to the world of watercooling!
Q1
I would go for the EK block, just personal preference, and then you shouldn't have any issues with metals mixing.
Corrosion shouldn't happen if you have a good biocide with anti-corrosive properties.
Q2
I recommend Liquid Utopia. It will act as a biocide and anti corrosive.
If you can get Mayhems X1 coolant, get it instead. Just get the Clear if you are using coloured tubing. There are plenty of colours available if you choose that path. If want something a little more fancy, get clear tubing and have a look at the Pastel range, there are some amazing colours.
Q3
Yes, this is correct. You only need a fitting for inlet and outlet. I have this res/pump combo, and it works great.

Thanks!! I don't think I'd wanna go colours haha, Case is going to be a dark grey, most of my WC parts are going to be black, so I'm using tubing and new sleeved motherboard cable + fans to pull off a black and white look.

As for the pump, thanks for answering that question for me biggrin.gif, and may i ask... how did you mount it? since I'm pretty sure theres like screw holes on the side of the thing mounting it either along HDD bays or something? Not sure if my case will have the right holes for them ;/

Edit: I have an issue, i'm having trouble figuring out with the Res + pump top combo... Since it has 1 in hole at the top / fill? then 2 out holes at the pump top correct? Does that mean there's no spare hole just for fill? The top hole serve as a fill + line in to res? How did you set yours up in such a way in terms of having a drain line and or a fill port / hole?

2nd Edit: Nvm... I think looking at the pictures again, I notice there's 2 holes on the left of the brand name of the pump top then 1 hole on the right side of the pump top I'm guessing that's where the true line in should be!?

White coolant would make it look great smile.gif
You can mount it in the drives bays, or just on the base of your case. You will probably have to get the drill out if you want to mount it in your drive bays.

To just clear up the inlet/outlet queries.
The pump has 2 inlets, and one outlet. The 3nd inlet is on the opposite side to the 2 main fittings. It does not matter which of the inlet's you use, although I suppose the left inlet would be easier to access.
The top cap is purely for filling, it should no be part of the loop at all. If you want a drain line, you are going to want to put that separately somewhere else in your loop, in the form of a T-line etc.

Ohh cheers, so it's not 1 inlet on left side and 2 outlets on the other? It's actually one inlet either side and one outlet on the right? Damn... Was going to make a drain line out of the what i thought was one of the two outlets on the right side lol, guess i'll have to figure out a T line else where~
