We know this platform you have there is good at multi-threaded office and 3D-generation work but I wonder how it works with games, that may only use 4 threads/cores for some of them.

Server chips won't benefit gaming

Well BF3 and Metro in "real world" gaming get 70-90 FPS, BF3 using 8 cores, Metro using 16 (not sure if it uses more i ahvent played it since i installed the second CPU)

Am off on holiday for a week so any more benchmarking will have to wait, until then its going to have a week hammering away at BOINC with me not using any CPU or GPU

Server chips specifically wont but having so many cores will IF the game is very multithreaded ie i didnt know BF3 could use 8 cores

Also it doesnt max out GPU or CPU so it able to access 8x2.4/3.0 (turbo with all cores is 2.4,turbo with only 8 cores is 3ghz need to test what speed the CPU clocks in BF3). it normally uses about 40-50% of each core

In case you forgot, Norse built this computer for gaming, I think he/she wrote that back in the OP even. That's why I even mentioned it at all.

Just because server chips are designed for server use doesn't mean they -have- to be used for servers. The computer I sent to a good friend of mine recently is a 6-core 12-threaded intel westmere core xeon @ 2.13 ghz, turns out it's fantastic for desktop stuff as well, especially video transcoding/converting, and only uses 40 watts @ full load from cpu.

Sometimes server chips are excellent for desktop stuff too.

I was wondering why you aren't running a SAS drive versus the sata

Got my sleeved SATA Cables in today two Purple and 1 Black, so will add them at somepoint, might wait until the PSU Extension cables come in and do it all at once

PC is running well though Grid 2 is totally screwed but it appears to be an issue with the game itself not my build

Well thought i might aswell show off what the current build looks like and its also now my main PC for gaming purposes, internet etc etc

The 24 ATX, EPS12V and the 4+4 ATX can ONLY go through between the heatsinks they are not long enough any other way, am waiting on the PSU extension cables from Pexon

During that time i will also flip the right heatsink around so its Noctua logo is the correct way around
