I need help with this new psu i got

i've been using a codegen 500w psu for 4 years , last 2 months the fans started to squeak , so i decided to change the psu , so i went and got me a xfx pro 550w .
connected everything , 24 pin , 8pin connecters , all the other hardware , graphix card , hdds dvd drive , everything is connected i tried to boot , it boots for about 1 sec , gets the fans running mobo lights and graphix card lights on , and then it shuts itself off , so i tried disconnecting everything and just connecting the 24pin + 8pin without anything connected , still the same problem , anyone has an idea of why this is happening , it was going fine with the psu i had before.

EDIT :ok, so i took of my motherboard set it on the mobo box i got it in, used both psus , with and without graphics cards and still fails to boot im thinking mobo issues ?

I have dealt with this problem before. Here are a few things you can try:

1. Plug the computer into a different power outlet, preferably in a different room in order to be on a different circuit
2. Unplug the psu, flip the switch to on, then hold the power button down for 20 seconds. Replug the power and try again.
3. Take the computer completely apart and put it back together, this can help you catch any slight mistakes you may have made whilst putting in the new power supply.
4. Make sure that your front panel connectors are all in the right place, as well as the speaker. This can sometimes cause this problem.
5. Also you can try removing your CMOS battery for a few minutes then reinstall it.
