I need to get more ram 6GB is not enough for me.

Cpu: Intel Core i7 930
Mother Board: Asus P6X58D-E
Current Memory: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227365 ( They don't sell them no more. Or else I would have match them)

DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)
Timing 8-8-8-24
Cas Latency 8
Voltage 1.65V

I'm looking to get http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820313355

DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)
Timing 9-9-9-24
Cas Latency 9
Voltage 1.5V

I think the new set will lower the performance right? Anyone have any suggestion of what I should do? I think the Max ram this mobo can run is 24GB? What happens if I get like 32Gb?

stick with a triple channel kit:

CORSAIR XMS3 6GB $53.99

just loosen the timings on the OCZ to CL9 and you ought to be fine.

btw, what are you doing to need more than 6gbs? i've done some adobe premiere and hit 7gbs once but . not very much.

that would be $4 more.

and its usually ok to use three singles BUT a triple channel kit is guaranteed to work whereas 3 singles might get flonky.

That is the thing I don't do anything. I just have chrome and firefox open and run a couple of tabs of twitch.tv and within an hour or two I get up to 5.8Gb used. I think I might have a virus or something.

not necessarily a virus but bloatware or you have a memory leak from chrome or such. open the resource monitor in the task manager performance tab.

then see in the memory tab what is using the most RAM and google around why it would be doing that - i am not good at figuring that out as much as many people.

it would be cheaper than spending money and still have a problem, no?

Here are some screenshoots

http://grab.by/mBlA
http://grab.by/mBlQ (in my opinion not a lot of tabs at all)

Within two hours it will get worse, it will be in 5.80Gb...

chrome leaks and so does FF. look your chrome is hogging 500megs and FF 380 megs. steam is running too, all that adds up.

i suggest this kit to maintain tri-channel mode . . .

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4307845&csid=

not sure it would pair up with existing ones without issues, though. ask for return policy just in case. don't downgrade to dual channel.
