With your 7850 running 7 tasks what is the load on the GPU?

I can't remember the GPU load but I think it was something like 87% and it never went higher - no matter how many tasks I added. It's very CPU heavy though and it gets CPU limited before it gets GPU limited - It fluctuates between 75% - 100% usage on my 3570K. When I first started running Poem, there was much speculation as to how I was getting the insane amount of points that I was and I'm still not sure on that! When Poem WU's become available again tomorrow, I'll check the GPU usage wink.gif
I'll keep running Boinc version 7.0.28 for now, but if you have any links or info on how to do what I need to do with the newer type app_config file, It would be much appreciated smile.gif

I accidently downloaded a load of tasks that i don't want to lose, so I'll have to wait before updating the client - probably tomorrow. I've done soeme digging online and it looks like I'll still need a cc_config file to go into the boinc data folder? Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
Code:
<cc_config>
<options>
<use_all_gpus>1</use_all_gpus>
<exclude_gpu>
<url>http://boinc.fzk.de/poem/</url>
<device_num>0</device_num>
</exclude_gpu>
 <exclude_gpu>
 <url>http://boinc.freerainbowtables.com/distrrtgen/</url>
 <device_num>1</device_num>
 </exclude_gpu>
</options>
</cc_config>

Then I'd need to use the app_config file in the project folder? Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
Code:
<app_config>
<app>
<name>poemcl</name>
<user_friendly_name>POEM++ OpenCL</user_friendly_name>
<gpu_versions>
<gpu_usage>0.14</gpu_usage>
<cpu_usage>.25</cpu_usage>
</gpu_versions>
</app>
</app_config>

Would that be correct?

It's strange that your 7850 needs 7 tasks to max out PPD, my 7870 XT does the same 1.2 million PPD if use 5,6,7 or 8 tasks at same time, gpu load also hangs at same 91-92 % with all those options.

Yes, you'll still need the config files in the folders you mentioned. As for Running POEM, the app doesn't use the 7xxxx cards to their full capacity. I can never get above 83% on a 7970. It seems the stronger the card, the lower the max GPU load you can get. I've also read that mobos with PCI-E 3.0 lanes do much better than those with 2.0. 3.0 has better throughput which makes a huge difference.

Yes - weird! I did test it and time it on multiple work units when I first started running Boinc and 7 was definitely the best number for PPD. I'm running it now and getting 87% max GPU usage. I messed up though. I put it in my main rig which mow has the 3770K. I should have paired it with my 3570K, which is now in my Boinc Box mad.gif
It's such a hassle re-installing drivers etc on that rig with no SSD!

Thanks for the info on those files - looks like I'm set to give it a go when I run down my work queue thumb.gif
