What types of 7970's don't whine? - Page 3

I believe one of my Diamond 7970s whines a bit but hard to hear over the fans. Once I get my blocks installed, I'll know for sure thumb.gif

That said, one or both of my Nvidia 570s also did this but only while doing certain tasks. Some loading screens did it and a random game always did it. Some episodes were louder than others.

This is bullcarp. I've read that too somewhere but it never did anything good to my 7970s; they were still whining loudly until I got rid of them, no matter how long I would leave any main screen running.
Now, my 670 is still whining a little bit when I play GW2, but it's much more quieter, and more like a buzz than actual whine.

Switching PSU didnt change much.

Since all cards are different, there is no way you can have the guarantee that one card will be quiet. The only thing that you can do is to keep RMAing them until you find one that is quiet.

You would think either AMD and NVidia would be aware of this and cap the framerate for loading screens and main menus? Or is it just difficult?

There's really no need for the 3000+ FPS that we get at loading screens.

You can force Vsync in the driver. It get rid of the whine caused by the loading screens. You may still experience whine, depending on your card, though.

Yeah, I sometimes do this. But it causes input lag on certain games. Frustrating

its a real toss up both mine made noise when i first got them but they have either stoped or got so quiet you cant hear them anymore. Buying used and asking them to test some stuff to make them whine would be your best option probly then if you get them and they do whine its your system causing it.
