I would say your wrong, simply because I dont think he could get anything older (lol) but in all seriousness, it wouldn't be stable for 3 hours with old drivers installed. (I know because I've done that before). But everything is worth a try.

I do understand where your coming from though, so I present to you, http://pcpartpicker.com/part/rosewill-power-supply-hive650, its even modular. thumb.gif

I agree with what you saying completely, I just would feel better safe than sorry having a PSU more powerful than what i actually need. Even if i was 200W over what i require i would
feel more comfortable with that,It also leave me headroom if i want to go SLI one day for example.

Here is a good PSU for a decent price in the range you want: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139028

There are a lot of them, and I don't have much time to name a list off but you should be able to find one between $50 and $75 depending on sales and such.

You will likely get something newer than the GTX 280 back from RMA though.

Most excellent biggrin.gif haha, Yeah i really appreciate all the help i can get.I would love to go full modular on the PSU,But as you can tell i am on a budget lol.
My rig is going on 3 years old.I will try and pick up a new PSU when i have the cash as soon as i can.

Also,What is OCP? A google search didn't net me too many results.

I was worried about a driver conflict, I have heard good and bad things about those driver scrubber softwares. As soon as i get my GPU back from RMA,I'm gonna load a fresh install of windows just to be safe.

Driver conflict is extremely rare, AMD and Nvidia drivers co-exist perfectly fine in Windows 7 and 8. You can run cards of both brands in the same machine with zero problems.

Overcurrent protection. Good thing it is working too, with the quality of that unit you could have a fire on your hands if it didn't. Basically you're pulling too many amps, likely on one of the 12V lines hooked to the GTX 280. That PSU has 3 12V rails, a single 18A and two 16A, none of which are sufficient for your needs. You MIGHT get away with using two of the rails in combination on the card in the mean time, but it could still be too much.

That PSU had an extremely outdated design in 2009 when it was released with 28A on the +3.3V rail which is barely used.

Wow,Thanks man,It sounds like you hit the nail right on the head. Thank god it didn't catch fire worriedsmiley.gif I am going to get a new PSU as soon as possible. I also am running the HD5770 right now.
Which takes a lot less power than the GTX 280.

Since you went from an AMD GPU to an Nvidia GPU did you make sure to properly remove the AMD drivers with their uninstall utility? You could be having a driver conflict caused by some remnants of the older drivers?
