77 degrees Celsius AMD CPU overheat issue !! Need input!

Thread Starter
So I've been running an AMD Phenom 955BE cooled by an XSPC rasa 750 RS360 kit (everything's still stock) for almost 2 years now. It's overclocked to 4.3Ghz from 3.2. I monitored the temps for over 4 months after I OCed it, and the temps never exceeded 62C, so I figured I'd let it run without supervision after that.

Well recently (in the past two weeks or so), my computer started crashing, like once every 30 mins when under load. So I opened up coretemp, and saw my CPU was at a whopping 77C !! Yes, that's seventy-seven degrees celsius - 12 degrees over the manufacturer's Max operating temp. That's [obviously] insane.

I immediately shut it down, emptied the coolant in my WC loop, rinsed the loop with hot water for 30 mins, then refilled it with fresh distilled water.... Which ended up decreasing the temps 2C........

I honestly don't really know what to do now.. I'm typing this on this very computer, in which I reset all AI tweaking settings back to factory, so 3.2Ghz @ 1.56v (I think). Not really sure if in reality, the CPU was running way overheat for an extended period of time, which quickly degraded it, and now, it's considered somewhat "fried"... or maybe there's something I'm completely missing to do with my WC loop? Now that I said that, it leads me to think I've forgotten something to do with my watercooling loop to maintain it..?!

More general info on my loop:
-As said earlier, everything I have is what came with the rasa kit
-The order is res>CPU block>rad>res
-Last time I remounted the waterblock was around November sometime I think.
-Running distilled water (Last time changed was 4 days ago)
-Killcoil
-6 120mm fans in push/pull all moving cool air from above the case into the case.
-3 fans are what came with the rasa kit, 3 are super-slim scythe 120mm fans.

I don't really know.. anyways, if you're reading this, thanks for reading everything above..

Here's the guts:

Thanks in advance, I really appreciate it.

Hi.
I don't know much about WC, but at 1.56v your chip is toast. You should be able to do 1.375 at stock...
EDIT.
Degredation hit, that's fact. Running at 62*C 24/7 is NOT suggested.
EDIT 2
Temps during stress testing should max 50*-55*C
Max Vcore 1.55v (on water, 1.5v on air)
And no worries about the "trust" thingy, more minds= more solutions. thumb.gif

Are you using the BIOS to overclock or software?

Have you tried clearing the CMOS and running at stock settings?

Interesting. I posted something asking if voltage is a problem, and the response was along the lines of "As long as the temps are fine, and you have a good-quality brand mobo, then you're fine". So I trusted that, and fired away!

..Moot point now..

Anyways, I checked, and I was wrong, the voltage is 1.4v

EDIT:
^^SCREENSHOT FAIL.

Thanks for your response, I trust you, but just to make sure, I'm going to wait for someone else to second it for corroboration reasons..

Used the BIOS completely. And yes, I cleared the CMOS, and am currently running at stock settings at 40C idle - I can try a load temp test now.

that might be the cause of the problem, clean those fans and rads, then flush your loop with a "cleaner", i heard vinegar works good but i'm not sure. clean your loop with something, just emptying and refilling it with water is not good enough.

if you have time, unmount the cpu waterblock, clean the mounting surface, then reaply thermal paste, remount the waterblock.

Ah, sounds like a multi-hour project. I'll definitely try that though, just not tonight.

Thanks so much!

it takes time, that's the con of having a watercooled PC, you have to maintain it. i'll remount the cpu block too if i were you.
