Looking for a new PSU, trying to find a deal :P

Hey all,

So I am rebuilding my system soon with a new case, mobo, cooler, core, and ram, and my current PSU works fine but I just realized that it has very brightly coloured cables. In an all black case with a nice black cooler and black-and-blue mobo... So, I have started looking around for PSU's with solid colour cabling. My new rig will run:

Core i7-3770K (I do like overclocking xD)
MSI Z77A-GD65
8GB DDR3
Gigabyte Radeon HD 7870 Windforce (the one with three fans and a factory OC)
1X 128GB SSD
3X xxxGB HDD's

I am thinking I want at least 700W for the upgrade ability, and I definitely want a modular supply. My current supply works fine but, as I mentioned earlier, is really brightly coloured.

I happened to find this on Newegg:
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151087

I understand from the reviews that this PSU is very well rated and is in the recommended PSU list sticky. I am simply wondering if this is a good deal and I should go for it, or if there is one that (I'm sure this won't happen ) everyone could come to a consensus as being the best that I should wait for it to go on sale. I don't need the PSU now, but if I can get it before I build the new rig (~1-6 weeks, depends on how quick I can get the core) it would save a TON of time xD I would like to spend as little as possible, within reason, so my cap would be at the very most $200

Thanks,
Shadow Hunter

A 700/750W is pointless unless you'll be getting two more 7870s. I'd grab a solid 550W unit, or a 650W if you plan on going 2-way CF in the future. For $200, you limits are almost endless. You have the Seasonic X series, Seasonic Platinum series, Corsair AX series, Silverstone Strider Gold Evolution series, Lepa G series - lots of options. My personal choice for a rig this size, with room for expansion, would be a Lepa G650, but it has two, two, non modular cables (24-pin and 8-pin EPS), so I'd check the Seasonic Platinum out. The Seasonic Platinum 660W is on sale for about $120, right now, which gives you room to buy cable sleeving, or allocate it into a higher-tier GPU.

The Lepa G650 (I know this is a minor complaint, but the whole point of the upgrade is aesthetics xD) has a coloured cable under the sleeving and therefore would leave a bunch of coloured wires connected to the mobo. I could just sleeve the one I have now, but I figured for the price of a good sleeving job, I may as well buy a better supply and have a reliable spare around tongue.gif Could you link where you found the 660 for 120? Keeping in mind I live in Canada and all.

Oh, my mistake - the sale has ended, and was only here in the states. In Canadaland, you can still find it for $150, which is rather pricey. There seems to be a common complaint about coil whine, so you may want to check out the other alternatives. The Seasonic X series is great, but you don't need 750W. If you can find one, a Fractal Design Tesla R2 650 or Corsair AX650 will serve you well, but both are rather hard to come by. If you have the money for a Corsair AX PSU (with a $200 budget, you do), they have solid black cables, which, since you don't seem to be interested in sleeving, would be a good choice. Still, their smallest still produced AX PSU is 750W, which is massive overkill for your system. The Silverstone Strider Gold 650 is a solid choice.
